DUPR - The World's Most Accurate Pickleball Rating 06/11/2024

LET'S TALK SKILL LEVELS (PLAYER RATINGS).

There are actually several ratings systems in use for pickleball, each instituted at different times by different organizations.
Examples include, UTPR, WPR, UTR, and DUPR......it's alphabet soup!

The DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) system is the official rating system of the Janesville Pickleball Club its events; its the most-used system in place today, and offers real-time rating updates as game/match results are uploaded to it. It's also free for players; a nice bonus. :)

DUPR uses a numerical rating system; 2.0 (total beginner) to 8.0 (perfect player). The skill levels with each rating jump are very similar to all other rating systems out there, include the USA Pickleball ratings guide.

To start, you simply go to www.mydupr.com and create a free account.
DUPR uses a predictive method of rating players. Once a minimum number of results are posted to a player's account, DUPR uses an algorithm to calculate an initial rating.

Then, DUPR uses your rating and the rating of both your partner and your opponents to calculate a predicted score. Let's say you & your partner play a team with higher DUPR ratings.......If DUPR predicts your team should have lost 4-11 but you actually lost 8-11, your DUPR would likely go up....if you win the game your rating goes up even more.
Results can be posted for any type of event, even rec games (presuming all players have a DUPR account & agree to the score being uploaded).

For our tournament, the club records all tournament scores and uploads them to DUPR en masse, and everyone's rating is updated in near real-time.
This is why we ask for players to have a DUPR account upon registering, so we can perform this mass upload without issue.

Our goal with this is to give players a valid DUPR numerical rating, to take into the pickleball universe on their journey to future events/tournaments.

The Janesville Pickleball Club receives no fees, incentives, or other advantages from DUPR by requiring players to have DUPR accounts; it's just something we believe in to help make pickleball even better than it already is.

DUPR - The World's Most Accurate Pickleball Rating Join over 1 million DUPR rated pickleball players in playing matches, building community, and improving as a player.

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION UPDATE:

We are still accepting registrations for our 2024 Firecracker Classic Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, July 6.

Available divisions are mixed doubles; 3.0-3.49 in the morning and 3.5-3.99 in the afternoon.

Curious in what makes a player from each division?......check out this handy attached visual chart.
There are TONS of similar visuals on the web; you can also use the USA Pickleball ratings guide, link is here:
https://usapickleball.org/tournaments/tournament-player-ratings/player-skill-rating-definitions/

Ratings are admittedly not an exact science, and based on self-assessment for the most part. If you don't already have a DUPR rating (the official rating system of our tournament), just be honest with you skillset when reviewing these visuals/guidelines, and if you think you fall into one of our tournament divisions, grab a partner & come play in one of the most fun pickleball events in the area!

(P.S.: more info on ratings & DUPR ratings coming in another post soon.)

For any educator-picklers out there, Victory Pickleball is offering a summer special: a 10-pack admission for their open play time slots for non-members to come play at their facility for a reduced rate (about 33% off the normal rate for non-members).
Would be a good "plan B" for those rainy/windy days; the weather is always great indoors. :)

Hey teachers! We are excited to announce that we now offer a "Teacher 10 Pack" for $66.00, which is available for purchase at Victory. Members can call or buy the pack directly from the front desk only. The teacher 10 pack is valid for 10 non-prime drop-in/open play events, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. We're looking forward to welcoming you and your teacher group soon!

[Notice: long-but-good post ahead]

Folks, 2024 is shaping up to be a milestone year for pickleball in the Janesville area! There's too much to cover in detail within one post, but we wanted to give you a "heads-up" of what's to come.

We'll post more details on each of the below items over the next few weeks and throughout the year, but here's a summary of everything on deck:

Tournament Save-The-Date:
Our annual 2024 Firecracker Classic Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 6th.
More details to come!

New Additional Pickleball Courts:
Wait….what????
You read that right - in addition to rejuvenating our existing six (6) courts, the City of Janesville will also be working on the design, bid, and construction of additional courts at Riverside Park.
The City, Friends of Riverside, and Janesville Pickleball Club are collaborating on this project to ensure tennis & pickleball can continue to flourish.
The layout & quantity of all new courts are still TBD; that’ll be part of the design phase.
Again, lots more details and information to come here, along with easy ways to provide your individual input into the future of this portion of Riverside Park.

Repair of Existing Courts:
The City of Janesville is contracting with a vendor to repair our existing courts at Riverside Park this spring.
Everything from minor surface patching, to major surgery on Court 1 to remove sub-surface irregularities, to a full re-painting of all courts to their original glory is on deck.
The current estimate for this work is May (depending on Mother Nature) and should take 1-2 weeks.
Stay tuned for more details as spring approaches.

DUPR Club & Events
The Janesville Pickleball Club is working on establishing a DUPR club along with hosting club-based events throughout the outdoor season.
These events and their results will be uploaded into the DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) system.
This will provide our Club members opportunities for competitive & fun play, options for bolstering their DUPR ratings, and a solid DUPR rating to be used for all kinds of tournaments & other events, both in Janesville and beyond.
More details to come as programming is created & court times coordinated between the City of Janesville and the Janesville Pickleball Club.

Holy cow, that’s…..a lot.
As we said above, it’s going to be quite a year for pickleball in Janesville. The game continues to grow like crazy, and the Janesville Pickleball Club wants to help facilitate that growth here in our great city.

Oh wait, we almost forgot: Our annual membership drive is on!
Membership for the year is only $20, and all proceeds go to both fund court maintenance & features, as well as pay for equipment for the free pickleball lessons held throughout the summer.
You don’t need to be a member to play at the Riverside Courts, but your paid membership will:
help the Club with being good stewards of the game at Riverside.
improve the Club’s voice when it comes to pickleball-related topics in Janesville.
upkeep of the court maintenance and features for use by all players.
provide you with access to the JPC DUPR club for uploading of scores from upcoming programming/events.

We will post separately on how to join, including a membership form along with multiple digital and traditional ways to pay your dues.

We look forward to seeing you on the courts in 2024!
