Records Revisited Podcast
The Records Revisited Podcast...a podcast dedicated to the magic of music.
We just did an episode about Stax artists (The Staple Singers). And I’ve got to go back to Memphis next month for work.
Watching the Stax Soulsville USA documentary series seemed like a no brainer. I think a tour of the place needs to happen.
What’s your favorite Stax tune? Yes, you can choose any Otis Redding tune since Volt was a sister label.
Here’s a few of mine but…man…what a catalog to choose from!
Happy Birthday to Barry Gibb. One word: legend.
What’s your favorite Bee Gees or Barry Gibb penned tune? “How Deep Is Your Love” is hands down my favorite. You?
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “B.R.M.C.”….their debut from 2001.
I happened upon them because a friend said “they sound like Stone Roses.” Which, kinda?
Did they ever really catch on in the states?
Finally finished listening to the latest episode with the great John Moreland.
And, yes, the Supersonics logo is the best ever NBA logo. You’ll have to listen for the reference.
Go listen y’all since I forgot to upload an episode this week. Whoops!
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Traveling Wilburys.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Vol. I.”
After hearing “Last Night”…I think it might be time for another Tom Petty discography relisten. I know, I know…twist my arm, right?
What’s your favorite song on this one?
I think I’m a pretty big Wilco fan but…
Some albums don’t connect until I’ve seen them live. I now love “The Whole Love” & “Ode To Joy” because of those experiences.
The new Crowded House album would fall into that category. Seeing/hearing the songs live last night were awesome.
Are there any other bands like that for you where you have to see them perform the songs to truly make the connections?
It’s Game Time!
First time seeing Crowded House! Let’s go!
If you had to ask me what albums have I listened to the most in my life, I think Led Zeppelin IV (or whatever we call it) would be in the conversation.
We still haven’t done an episode about this all time classic. How did that happen? Are people afraid of tackling this classic?
What’s your top song off this one? I’m going with “When The Levee Breaks.” That’s how you end an album!
Happy Crowded House concert day to me and and co-host Wayne!
Probably need to listen to the latest album again to pregame.
I haven’t quite gotten into this album yet. Hasn’t hit me yet.
Any Crowded House fans out there? If so, thoughts on the new record?
Next listens…
Thompson Twins - Into The Gap
Or
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
Which one do I listen to first?
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Blue Nile.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Peace At Last.” Third album from them. Might be my least favorite of theirs. Not bad…just not up to their standards.
Any other fans of The Blue Nile out there?
John Moreland “Birds in the Ceiling” is next up.
Getting myself in a Moreland headspace as I’m getting ready to listen to his appearance on which I can already tell is gonna be awesomeness.
I say this is John’s best work. Anyone else agree?
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Stone Temple Pilots.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop.” Third album from them.
“Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart” is a banger.
Maybe this doesn’t stand up to the first two but…
….it still rocks. And we don’t talk enough about this album. Been a minute since I’ve used the NEPTA abbreviation.
Anyone dig this one like I do?
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Peter Tosh.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Legalize It.”
Tosh would be on the Mt. Rushmore of Reggae with Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, right? Besides them, who else would be on the monument?
I can’t decide on a fourth. Help!
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Alanis Morissette.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Jagged Little Pill.”
Yes, or course we did an episode on this classic. Check out the episode with Kalie Shorr in the archives.
What’s your favorite song on this one? Least favorite?
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Beastie Boys.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Ill Communication.”
Includes the all-timer “Sabotage.” Best video of the 90s for me.
If anyone wants to buy me a Christmas present…here’s a suggestion. 😉
Yes, I know it has some flaws (like most 90s album and “bloat”) but I just remember…it was released in 1994. Who else loves this album?
Whoever added “I’ve Been Blind” from The Fratellis to the “Doctor My Eyes” playlist, I salute you.
And now I need to listen to “In Your Own Sweet Time.”
Seeing the band in 2018 while traveling in Nashville was one of my favorite spur of the moment decisions I’ve made! Me and a fellow coworker were traveling for work and after a client visit we were going to see a Bowling Green minor league game. We even got into the stadium when the heavens opened and DRENCHED the field causing the game to be canceled.
We were staying in Nashville so we drove back to the city and we still wanted to do something…anything…and our options were The Fratellis at the Exit/In or The Fleet Foxes at the Ryman.
We went with the Fratellis as we thought it would be more lively. And we were right. What a show! Been a fan ever since.
Been a minute since I’ve spun some Steely Dan.
Been a minute since I’ve listened to “Katy Lied.”
Includes “Black Friday” & “Bad Sneakers” (one of my favorite Dan songs) & “Doctor Wu.”
Maybe I finally need to do a formal ranking of Steely Dan albums? I’m not sure if I could do it.
Where does this stack up in the Steely Dan discography for you?
I couldn’t help myself….
With all the great “eye” related suggestions yesterday, I made a playlist.
And, this playlist kicks some serious tail. Y’all made this one happen.
Did I miss any? Feel free to add songs (I made it public) and give a listen!

Call this spin “research.”
Yep. Gonna do our first episode about Rilo Kiley. 😀🤘
My go to album from them is “Under The Blacklight” but this ain’t far behind.
Is there any doubt that my top pick will be “Portions for Foxes?” It’s one of my go to “sing at the top of my lungs - get myself in a good mood” tunes.
Who’s excited for this one? I know I am!
NEW EPISODE ALERT! Josh Joplin joined us to talk about his latest album “Figure Drawing” (that I love) and The Staple Singers “Be What You Are.” Want to hear a killer soul charts playlist from 1974? Go to the episode notes for the link.
And also go follow Josh Joplin Group
Don’t skip this episode! You’ll ❤️ it!
For those keeping track of my eye status, I’m happy to report….
I can see clearly now.
Lots of versions of this song. Is the best the original from Johnny Nash? Or Hothouse Flowers? Or Jimmy Cliff? Ray Charles? Gladys Knight & The Pips? KC and the Sunshine Band?
Your vote?
My eyes are dilated. If I mistype anything on this post it’s because my screen is blurry.
Time for another song with “eye” in the title….
Time for Alan Parsons Project and “Eye in the Sky.”
What other songs with the word “eye” in the title should I play? I mean…Survivor and “Eye of the Tiger” is a given, right? Give me other suggestions!
I’ve got a doctors appointment this morning.
Any idea what KIND of doctor? There’s a song on this De La Soul classic that might give you a clue.
It’s probably also my favorite song on “3 Feet High and Rising.” Maybe you already “know?” 😉
Anyone want to venture a guess?
Someone asked me the other day who’s on my bucket list of bands/artists I’ve never seen, I rattled off:
The National
Orville Peck
The Pretenders/Chrissie
I know there’s more but that’s what came to mind.
So, let’s crank up Pretenders II in honor.
Who’s on your bucket list?
Watched some more early days SNL reruns and had no idea that Bruce Cockburn played “Wondering Where The Lions Are” on an episode.
That’s one song I will never tire of hearing.
But Bruce got shafted. He only got to play one song because The Amazing Rhythm Aces played as well. 👎🏻
I don’t think I’ve ever officially ranked Beatles albums. But…
If I did, I think “Rubber Soul” would be 6th? Or 7th?
How many people will I p**s off when I say I like this album more than “Let it Be” or the White Album?
Where would you stack this in the Beatles discography?
Oh yeah…do you remember we did an episode on this album?
Another listen of “Like a Prayer” from Madonna.
“Oh Father” is the definite highlight on this one for me.
Question of the day:
Which is the most iconic Madonna video? I say it’s either the video for “Vogue” (not on this album) or the video for “Express Yourself.” Your pick?
Next up: “Vox Humana” from Kenny Loggins. 1985 I think?
Includes “Forever” and “No Lookin’ Back” was also recorded by its co-writer…Mr. Michael McDonald.
Maybe Jon from and I are the only two weirdos out there that like this album. Anyone else like this one? Or are you too cool to admit it?
More Crowded House pregame listens…
This time, “Together Alone” from 1993.
Includes “Pineapple Head” and “Distant Sun” and one of all time favorites “Locked Out.”
Now I want to listen to the “Reality Bites” soundtrack.
This is #5 in the CH discography for me. For you?
