Good Day Seattle Zip Trips: Shoreline (Full Episode) FOX 13's Good Day Seattle team showcases Shoreline, Washington.
Many residents are struggling to keep up with rent. COVID and the economic ramifications that still affect our society today have arrested their progress.
This is why we launched the One Less Barrier campaign. With your financial gift, you can support hundreds of families and individuals working to escape debt.
Unfortunately, this isn't just a problem for Compass residents.
From the Seattle Times:
"In Seattle and across the country, nonprofits that operate low-income housing face a skyrocketing balance of unpaid rent.
In the Seattle area, the total rent debt across all tenants is estimated at $170 million, according to the National Equity Atlas, the vast majority of it belonging to low-income households. Across the country, the total is almost $10 billion.
Many housing providers say the amount of overdue rent has grown dramatically since before the pandemic and is hurting their ability to maintain and build more affordable housing in a region and nation that is starved for it."
Unpaid rent in low-income housing skyrocketed, evictions may be next Tenants in low-income housing are struggling to pay rent — or refusing, depending on whom you ask. Either way, the debt could hurt affordable housing long-term.

Corinne and her crew at Ronald Commons are phenomenal!
Last night, Mayor Roberts proclaimed today National Night Out. The proclamation was received by Corinne McKisson, Program Manager at Ronald Commons. Corrinne has made National Night Out an annual and much-anticipated tradition for residents of Ronald Commons. She creates a warm and welcoming environment for everyone in the community.
National Night Out for Community provides an opportunity for Shoreline residents to
connect with their neighbors. As our City changes and grows, those connections are
even more important. The City’s goal for NNO is to foster a sense of belonging, whether participants live in single- or multi-family housing. Corinne has led the way in making this happen.
Happy National Night Out everyone! 🥳

No robots here! Just a group of amazing humans from Amazon.com's Grocery Robotics and Systems group, taking a break from their team meetings to package hygiene kits and create warm messages filled with encouragement and art for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
These kits will bring comfort to guests as they enter one of Compass’s emergency shelter programs, serving women, men, and Veterans in King County.
Thank you to this wonderful team for learning about Compass’s vital work and supporting our community!
Compass is thrilled to announce our partnership with the Seattle Seahawks!
As an official “Spirit of 12" nonprofit partner, Compass benefits from incredible fundraising and volunteer opportunities in Training Camp and throughout the season. At Saturday’s Training Camp, Compass employees and volunteers (including the amazing folks at Girls on the Run Puget Sound ) *crushed* the all-time high sales of Seahawks’ yearbooks! Of *course* we did! We are honored to be aligned with the most community-focused team in football.
Wanna get in on the action? Volunteer with us on September 8 at Lumen Field, and you, too, could be part of a championship team of goal-crushing volunteers, selling raffle tickets to fans, and bringing support to amazing nonprofits like Compass. Reach out to [email protected] to learn more!

"The national numbers fill in the big picture of this story: From 2019 to 2022, the median price of a house jumped 25% in the U.S. And over the past seven years, rents have skyrocketed by 30%. These historic increases aren’t only eating into family budgets; they’re also taking away part of the American Dream from a growing number of people.
In December 2022, Pew Research Center found that 86% of U.S. adults said homeownership was important to their view of the American Dream, more even than having a successful career (79%). And nearly half of Americans said a lack of affordable housing was a major problem in their community."
The High Cost of Putting a Roof Over Your Head Across the country in the wide expanses of Montana, it was easy less than a decade ago to find a comfortable family home in Bozeman for $250,000. Today, many of those same houses sell for more than $600,000, with prices often driven up by people moving in from more expensive states who have sold a h...

is a time of celebration and family.
Federally recognized as a holiday since 2021, Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.
“What I love about Juneteenth is that even in that extended wait, we still find something to celebrate. Even though the story has never been tidy, and Black folks have had to march and fight for every inch of our freedom, our story is nonetheless one of progress.”

Louder for the people in the back! Homelessness is a housing problem.
Seattle-area official blames 'housing market' for homelessness King County Executive Dow Constantine said Tuesday the belief substance abuse is a root cause of homelessness is incorrect.
The LGBTQIA community still faces systemic challenges, and that is especially true for young people. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 20% of those in the LGBTQIA community have experienced homelessness before they were 18 years old.

WaFd Bank has been a great partner with Compass!
WaFd has a branch in Ballard mere blocks away from Nyer, so they felt a connection. Not only did they respond positively to our grant request, but they also wanted to get involved and volunteer. WaFd has been leading financial literacy classes for our Nyer residents, covering topics like money management and banks.
Here, Assistant Branch Manager Rohini Sadioura (middle) presents the big check!
“WaFd has been great to work with,” said Tim Keaty, Program Coordinator at Nyer. “They listen to our residents and work through their concerns.”
Thank you so much, WaFd Bank!
