You may have noticed that pics I take while training are truly terrible but it’s all in the name of dogs 😂

Tonight Betty worked on being out in public, trying not to hyperfixate on her surroundings, loose leash walking, and being calm as the world goes by.

This pic was at the end of our session, I think she was half exhausted from learning and realizing the calm is nice 🥰❤️

Night one of puppy class in the books!

I thought teaching class would be hard after only loosing Rohn a week ago, but these puppies and their people filled my heart and brought so much joy tonight.

These puppies are well on their way to being well rounded dogs!

Thank you all for the bday wishes. It was a good day that turned dark.
Without sharing the traumatic details, Rohn had an unexpected medical episode that turned into an emergency. Rohnny fought hard to recover but he let me know it was his time early morning 8/20.
Teddy and I are purely heartbroken and have never felt such pain.
I encourage us all to be more like Rohn. Be happy, kind, and gentle.
Thank you all who have been checking in with us, we’re trying to be ok, all the love we’ve received is getting us by.

12 years old and still the captain of the canoe 🛶

There are days I leave a dog training session and I think to myself “what a life I have to be able to work with such amazing dogs and their humans.”

Today I worked with Brule on canoeing skills in the middle of somewhere 🛶🐾

Brule’s owenrs came all the way from Hayward, WI today! That’s what I call dedication!

Brule’s people are very experienced paddlers with dogs but young Brule is a little big of a wildchild. So today we worked on having better manners in the boat. After today’s in-person session and virtual session last week, I know Brule and his folks are going to be right as rain on their Canadian paddle adventure this month!

Meet Betty 🥰🐾

Betty is a happy girl who’s learning lots! We’re working on being neutral around strangers/new people, place, nail trims, kennel, door/threshold manners, and so much more to come!

This girl is a fast learner, and I mean freaky FAST! Betty and her mom are such a treat to work with and I can’t wait to keep watching them grow!

PS did anyone else have a Betty Spaghetti doll growing up? I loved that doll!

What a treat to work with Winter and her mom and dad. It always makes me happy when owners start puppy training right when puppy gets home! Winter is well on her way to learning to be a great dog 🐾🌲

Early morning session with sweet and little Daisy Mae today 🐾

Daisy Mae is learning to not chase cars and to be a cool cucumber when out on adventures with her mom.

As she learns new habits her confidence will grow and more value and drive will be built into mom!

Dogs are simply amazing 🐾

Friends, today a team sortie anchored on canine Rooster located the body of Jesse Haugen, missing in the Curtain Falls area of the Boundary Waters since May 18. Jesse has been recovered and is on his way home. Please keep Jesse's family and friends in your thoughts as they embark on the difficult journey they face in the days ahead.

The search for Reis continues. Eight members are spiked out in our Base Camp along the river, running drone, sonar, ROV, ground, and canine sorties. The team weathered a thunderstorm last night, and a significant weather event is forecast for the weekend. Relief missions are planned for Sunday and Tuesday to switch out crewmembers and pack in a few round-out items the team needs, weather permitting. Base Camp is well-stocked with food and fuel should these missions have to scrub.

Well, pack… the time has finally come for the final North Paws Wilderness pack walk before we move to start our next adventure in the north woods🐾

The final pack walk will be Saturday, June 15th, 8:30am at Como Lakeside Pavilion.

will be joining us to capture the pack walk 🥹

I thought Como would be the perfect place for the final pack walk since Como is the heart of where I have met many of you for the first time during classes 🩵

Como lake is a little over a mile walk, so if we start early I think we’ll beat the heat but don’t forget to bring your water!

🐾pack hikes are only open to well behaved and trained dogs (if your dog is working through behavioral issues or aggression, a pack walk is not appropriate at this time)
🐾no nose to nose greetings
🐾your dog must be on leash at all times
🐾space must be given to teams around you (if you choose to use a long line, you must create more space around yourself)

The sass was spewing from Ziva as she demanded water after her session last week 😂🐾

Ziva and her mom worked on loose leash walking skills, not biting mom’s feet as she walks down the stairs, and the foundations of place.

Ruby is here for boarding 🐾

Sometimes dogs settle in right away, others need a little bit. Today Ruby is coming out of her shell. We played together with her ball in the park, walked with the rest of the pack, and had lots to say after we got back!

I’m so happy she’s feeling more comfortable and being herself!

Yesterday was the last day of the Images of Beargrease gallery at the aquarium in Duluth.

My piece, “Northern Lights over Mineral Center” sold and I am beyond thankful 🥹 the person who bought it didn’t know about the race, has never been, and didn’t know about Mineral Center. I shared with her the Mineral Center is a mix of being exhausted and excited since the finish is near and that you can fill up on bacon and brownies too, well, at least I do 😂 Her husband simply enjoyed the northern lights and she bought it for him.

Here’s to some snow next year so we can capture it again!

Meet Ziva 🐾

Ziva is a 7 month old Aussie who’s signed up to work with me for the next two months and I am beyond excited!

This girl is too stinkin cute and too stinkin smart and she knows it 😂

Tonight we worked on not jumping, marker work, and boundaries of staying out of the kitchen.

Ziva’s mom’s goal is to have her be a well rounded dog who can go on any adventure with her. My response to when I hear that kind of goal? YOU BETCHA!

It took a lot out of me to not sn**ch her up and bring her home!

Ode to the Bacon Lady

As long days on the runners turn into long nights
There is a comforting place in the woods in sight

Through cool temps, dark skies, and deep snow
Sawbill is truly the place to go

Coming around the bend, there’s a scent
It must be coming from the wall tent

With booties off and dogs bedded down
It’s time to take a moment to slow down

So pull up a straw bale and lend an ear
A plate of bacon is soon to be near

How much bacon you ate, they’ll never know
With that being said, I guess it’s time to go

But before you and the dogs head up the trail
A thank you to the bacon lady must be unveiled

As teams leave with all their gear
Not to worry, next year will soon be here.
