To look at me, no one would realize I deal with chronic issues ..I don’t often talk about my life with cancer but here goes…
35 years ago today on April 1, 1987, I was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic stomach cancer. Boy, on that day I really wished it was an April Fool’s Joke! The top pictures are from 4/29/1987, I was a 24 yr single mom facing an uncertain future. These were taken after my first chemo and port insertion; I had just had 3/4 of my stomach removed and I was scared! There was no protocol for someone my age so everything was an experiment. The bottom picture is how I appear today at 59. I haven’t taken many pics this year, I’m having extensive dental work and am a little self conscious about not having some teeth right now…but soon I will!
It’s been a long 35 years but I’m still here…35 years ago they didn’t think I’d see another year! Boy did I fool them! In 2003, I had a second primary cancer of the stomach and at that time, they removed the rest of my stomach and I fooled them yet again. My life hasn’t been easy…my “normal” is abnormal to most people but it’s been my life. I was blessed to be raised by a strong mom who passed it on to me..I’ve had an amazing support system for this thing we call “life”
35 years ago, I didn’t think I would have a “life” but I’ve been blessed! I have an amazing husband, 3 kids (2 are my “miracle” babies) and now have 3 grandchildren! My life has been interesting…Thank you to everyone who has shared it with me & helped keep me positive…I truly appreciate all the love and support I’ve had over the years! Love you all…
