Part of month is reflecting on your history.

During the 1950s, continued oppression resulted in many LGBTQ people in Connecticut being arrested for moral offenses or institutionalized as mentally ill, subjected to brutal “conversion” therapies. Yet there was a growing resistance to returning to the solitary, isolated lives many had known before World War II.

Gay and le***an bars provided sanctuaries and could be found in all corners of the state. Supportive groups and movements emerged, such as Project H and the Kalos Society. Inspired by the civil rights and feminist movements, as well as the Stonewall riots of 1969, Connecticut’s LGBTQ population began to come out of the shadows and demand a place in society. As a former first responder, I can tell you that this call is "the one they will always talk about.” These type of calls are first responder's worst nightmares. The brave men and women of the West Haven Police Department and the West Shore Fire Department acted quickly and courageously in the face of absolute horror. The details of this event will be forever burned into their memories and will continue to rent space in their heads for rest of their days. They are to be commended for their actions but, more importantly, they will need to be supported in the days to come. God bless you all.

⚠️Spread the word and save lives!⚠️

Connecticut's Move Over law (Sec. 14-283b) requires all drivers on a highway of two lanes or more in one direction to slow down to a reasonable level below the speed limit and, if safe to do so, move over one lane not only for emergency responders and tow drivers, but for any vehicle along the side of the road. If a driver is unable to move over a lane, they are required to slow down and proceed with caution.

Last week, I had the opportunity to tour the CT State Library, across from the Capitol Building. I even received a library card!

The building also houses the State Supreme Court and a CT history museum. So many wonderful things are kept there. Our original State Charter is in a custom vault and in a hand carved frame (that may or may not be from the Charter Oak). There’s a huge book with all the original architectural drawings of the State Capitol. I’m including a photo of the Capitol with a clock tower instead of the dome as we know it. The architecture is stunning.
