There are some pretty interesting things in the small towns we get to work in all throughout eastern Montana. So we thought it would be fun to share some of that with our followers.
Mildred Montana was established in the early 1900’s and was a booming town located in Prairie County. It was build right off the Yellowstone Trail and was a bustling community until the end of the 1940 when the great depression hit. Mildred now has a current population of 3! Some of the buildings that still exist include the church, bank, general store and jail house along with some of the homes. Most are uninhabitable but still remain standing. This was an area that the government would give ranchers 360 acres to ranch if they could be successful and pay taxes. The 20 mile trek through the vast country on dirt roads to get to Mildred you find 3-4 ranchers left who now own thousands of acres. Ranching in Montana takes a lot of hard work and preparation for inclement weather conditions.
We look forward to sharing more small towns with you. If you are interested in more information, search Mildred Montana on Facebook or Google and there is a ton more information.
