Magician / Comedian Tom Joyce on Thursday, 7/25 at 4:00 pm. Please join us for a fun and funny magic show that is full of laughs, tons of audience participation and amazing magic! Tom Joyce is a former magician at FAO Schwartz Toy Store in NYC. This could very well be the funniest hour your family spends together all summer long! This event is FREE and no need to
RSVP. Best for ages 4 and up. Location: Latham Library Community Room. Thisevent is part of the Thetford Libraries “Adventure Begins at Your Library” summer reading program.

Adventures in Movement with Emma Jeanne Hoops on Saturday, 7/27 at 11:00 am.
Just before the Thetford Hill Fair kicks off, join us for this fun movement program outside on the back lawn at Latham. Come ready to play with hoops, streamers, and a parachute! Emma Jeanne Hoops has been called "Vermont's #1
jester and powerhouse performer." This event is part of the Thetford Libraries “Adventure Begins at Your Library” summer reading program. All ages are welcome! Rain location: Latham Community Room.

Coming up next week! Latham Library is proud to present Modern Times Theater performing a Punch and Judy puppet show on June 20 at 4:00pm. Location: Thetford Hill green, Rain Location: Latham Library Community Room

This updated classic puppet show follows the troubles and travails of puppetry’s favorite loudmouth, Mr. Punch. The skillfully operated hand puppets are made of garbage and up-cycled material, and are chock full of surprises and tricks, as is the elaborate stage. It’s a low-tech old-time spectacle, entertaining to children of all ages: from one to one hundred. By taking the best from the long tradition of Punch and Judy shows, and bringing the art form into the 21st century, this classic remains alive, vital, and hysterical to both children and adults today.

Sign-up for the 2024 Summer Reading Program will be available. All ages are welcome and the show is free! This event is part of the Thetford Libraries “Adventure Begins at Your Library” summer reading program.

Latham Library now has a Treasure Island Day Pass available for our patrons to borrow! This pass allows one family (up to two adults and four children) free admission to Treasure Island Beach on Lake Fairlee for one day. Available on a first-come, first-served basis with a 24 hour check-out period, unlike our other passes.

Latham Memorial Library, part of Thetford Libraries, offers resources that are available to everyone and is a center for community information. Their lift elevator provides critical access to the library's lower level, providing people who are handicapped or have mobility challenges with safe, easy access to the library's collections and function room. The Mascoma Bank Foundation was pleased to support this library infrastructure project to better meet community needs in Vermont.

HOLIDAY HOURS AT THE THETFORD PUBLIC LIBRARIES: Latham Library will be closed December 23-25, and December 30-January 1. We will be open for our regular hours from Tuesday, December 26-Friday, December 29.
Peabody Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 27 and Thursday, December 28.

Thank you to the 1772 Foundation and Preservation Trust of Vermont, who have awarded the Peabody Library in Post Mills a grant to help with the exterior painting of the building. The library, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is now looking beautiful with its new paint job!

Latham Library will be closed on Monday, October 9 in observance of the federal holiday.

From August 14-22, Latham's main level and lower level computer/graphic novel room are open normal hours. Come see us!

From August 23-25, Latham will be closed to complete the lift installation. Curbside service for pickups and returns will be available. Please call 802-785-4361, email [email protected] or use our online catalog to place requests.

Our Preschool Storytime will move to Peabody Library on Friday August 25 at 11:00.

Peabody Library will be open normal hours, Wednesday 2:00-7:00 and Thursday 1:00-5:00.

The Thetford Historical Society will remain open for their public hours on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00-5:00, or by appointment.

Please watch for outdoor signs, listserv/Facebook posts, the library website, and phone messages for any change in status.

Read with Dasher! Today at Peabody Library in Post Mills from 2:00-3:00.

LATHAM LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE!

Many apologies for the short notice, but we just got word that construction for our wheelchair lift project at Latham Library will begin TOMORROW, Thursday, July 20.

Library operations at Latham will shut down during construction, with a tentative reopening date of Monday, August 14. Updates will be posted to the listserve, our website, and this page.

The porch boxes for pickups and returns at Latham will remain accessible...both boxes will be on the back porch of the library, as the front porch will be used as a staging area for construction. A portion of the parking lot for wifi access and public parking will still be available.

You may continue to place holds and request items from Latham, but there may be a slight delay as the librarians will wait for the construction crew to finish work for the day before retrieving items. We will notify you when your requests are ready for pickup. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services will also continue.

We will offer additional hours at Peabody Library in Post Mills while Latham is closed:

Latham's new fiction and non-fiction items will be available at Peabody, along with Peabody’s excellent selection of adult and children’s materials, and public wifi. Rather than by appointment, our Read with Dasher times are now drop-in. Come anytime on Monday, July 17 between 2:30 and 3:45.

Do you have a beginning reader in your household? Do they love dogs?
Bring your new reader to Latham Library to read to this loveable and gentle yellow lab/husky, who is a certified therapy dog through Caring Animal Partners. Your child can sign up for a 15 minute time slot to cuddle with and read to Dasher, who will most appreciate it. It would be best to arrive to your appointment with a book already chosen, so as to use the whole time for reading. The librarians are happy to make reading suggestions ahead of time. Please also arrive promptly for your doggie date.
There are four slots available for our first Read with Dasher time on Friday, July 7: 2:00-2:15, 2:20-2:35, 2:40-2:55, and 3:00-3:15. Please email [email protected] to sign up.
If you don't get a spot this time, don't worry...there will be more Read with Dasher times this summer. If the program is popular and fills up fast, first preference will be given next time around to new readers who haven't had a chance yet.

Latham Library will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4.

Exciting news! Latham Library will be installing our lift style elevator at the end of June.
