Finished quilting! Now I just have to bind it and it’ll be finished! I think it’s safe to say I’m addicted to Michael Miller Fabrics. ❤️

I always try to play chicken with the bottom bobbin and lose when it runs out, but I never learn. 😂

Almost finished quilting this one! But tying off and burying threads is my least favorite part. Maybe tomorrow. 😅

Week 4 of the Stars and Stripes Quilt Along is finished and so are my flags! 15 total. I was so grateful to have a couple of cooler, rainy days to work on them, the iron heats up my studio quite fast! 😂

I took a picture of them all so you can see each one, no two are exactly the same, and I love the variety. 😍 I can’t wait to add the gray sashing and boarders this week!

Getting started on a flag quilt! It’s called Stars and Stripes by Thimble Blossoms. I’m following a quilt along on Instagram, so if you want to join in check out my IG! Last week I chose the fabrics I wanted to use and this week I’m cutting it all up. I definitely didn’t finish all the cutting in one night.... 😳 Okay maybe I did.

Check out my fabric monster staring at me because I was too excited to start and forgot to move my scrap bin over to the table. 😂

I can’t wait to see how it looks when it’s done! There’s a total of 15 flags to make and they’ll be framed by the gray slate fabric. My favorite part is the space fabric I picked up at The Quilt Shop in South Dakota! I saw it on our way to Keystone and I knew I had to pick it up on our way back. Shout out to my hubby for putting up with my dramatic self. (“I absolutely have to stop on our way back I need it!!! What if it’s out of print and I never see it ever again!”) 🤭😂

19/05/2021

Brown scrappy quilt top is finished, pinned, and ready to be quilted. I’m loving the way this stitching looks and the contrast of the brown thread with the yellow squares! What do you think? I wasn’t sure which backing to use, but I settled on brownish floral print.

Some scrappy goodness to brighten the day! Working on chain piecing more scraps for my brown scrappy quilt today. I can’t help but dig through my strip scraps too.

At the beginning of the pandemic I was working every day in retail as a store manager, around 70-80 hours a week. I had to leave my job to be home and care for hubby as he recovered from his major surgery. Left with idle hands and a busy mind, I started making masks and headbands with buttons to donate. By the end I’d donated around 100 masks and about 500 headbands. (Okay, 498 headbands, I kept two for myself so I could match my employees. 😂)

(You probably see where this is going...) I have a TON of strips, scraps, and pieces left over. My goal for this year is to use up all of them. The tiniest pieces get turned into stuffing, the strips and bigger pieces are going to be organized and sorted by color for quilting. (Any volunteers? 😂)

I’m starting by pulling red, white, and blue pieces for my next quilt in line. One of my favorite quilt designers is hosting a quilt along and I’m excited to join in! 🇺🇸

Before and after! These are a few of the fat quarters of fabric I bought on vacation. I was trying to find the brightest ones in the shop and I think I did it! There’s a few mixed in that are now out of print, so it’ll truly be a one of a kind quilt.

What’s involved:
✔️ 124 squares
✔️ 49 rectangles
✔️ 692 cuts
✔️ The Geometry I said I’d never use after high school 🤪

Bringing the scrappy quilt top back out today! This is one I’ve been working on and off on for the past two or so months. It’s what I work on when I want to relax and have some fun. It’s not perfect, and I love it for that.

It’s a great reminder that no matter how small the pieces are, they can all come together to make something beautiful. I try my best to waste as little fabric as possible. The landfills are full enough, I don’t need to contribute more. For reference, the squares are all 2.5” x 2.5,” and 2” x 2” once stitched.

I went back and forth for a long time about adding the yellow with the browns, and I’m so glad I did. It gives it just the right amount of brightness while staying warm.

(Side note: I must’ve drawn the layout about 20 times before I settled on this one. 😂)

I’m loving this Sister’s Choice quilt already! Two blocks down, 4 to go! I still haven’t chosen a backing fabric for it, I’m thinking pale yellow, light blue, or white. What do you think? 😁

Photos from Granny Country's post 11/05/2021

I’m baaaack! I’m working on a quilt, the pattern is called Sister’s Choice. I love the little dainty flowers! I thought it would be cool to show you all of the steps for each block! ❤️

Also, I definitely bought way more fabric than I need on my vacation. Whoops! 🤭😅 100% worth it though! I’ll definitely use it!

I absolutely HAD to stop off in Chamberlain, SD when I saw a sign for The Quilt Shop! What a cute little quilt shop! Definitely nothing like it at home. This is only one room of many! It was fabric paradise in there! 😍😍 Both of the ladies there were so helpful and sweet! They knew exactly where to find what I was looking for. I love every single thing I bought. I definitely want to stop by again on our way back! ❤️

I was waiting for the parents to see them before I posted anything, so now I can show them to you! I made these two as gifts, one for a baby shower present and one for a one year birthday present! It was my first time trying out hand embroidery for their names and I’m happy with the way they turned out! ❤️
