Spent Sunday celebrating nursing excellence in Maine! Congratulations to all the Husson, UMO, and UMA students inducted into sigma this year! What an accomplishment 🩺

Spring 2024 is coming to an end, and that means new and exciting things happening🦅
We also got to celebrate 40 years of nursing here at Husson with a special tea🫖

HUSNA has had the BEST week at the National Student Nurses Association Convention 2024! We have been able to attend so many lectures, and activities that we will be able to bring home to our fellow class mates. We have learned about things from global health all the way to oncology! We have also had the chance to attend the NCLEX review sessions which we can’t wait to use when we take our exam soon! We would like to thank everyone who has helped us get here with donations, and even emotional support!

We made it to Florida for the annual National Student Nurses Association convention! Can’t wait to share more🩺

HUSNA faculty spotlight!
Meet Diane Jenks, for many of you, your first nursing professor. Professor Jenks teaches the Fundamentals of Nursing and Introduction to to Med Surg to all sophomores. Here is a little about her.
Hi!
My name is Diane Jenks, and I’ve been a nurse for the past 30 years. I have to say that the decision to pursue nursing was one of the all time best choices of my life! I’ve worked in some pretty interesting areas that have taught me a LOT! My experience includes: med/surg-neuro, labor and delivery, liver transplant ICU, cardiac catheterization lab, and now I have the privilege of teaching BSN students.
Nursing has taken me many places, however, I still believe the priority of the nurse is to provide the best care possible of those for whom they are caring. As crazy as it may sound, I miss the patient care a great deal, because it always gave me incredible personal satisfaction to know that I made a difference in someone’s life.
For many of us the passion Professor Jenks shows for nursing has inspired us to strive towards being the best nurses we can be. Thank you Jenks for inspiring us and helping us start our nursing journey!🩺

HUSNA is hosting a blanket night tomorrow at 5 in commons 212! The blankets will be donated to the homeless shelter!

Husson University celebrates nursing grads with “pinning ceremony” The Husson University School of Nursing is ready to send its students off into their careers.

Final day of the NSNA National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.
71st Annual Convention! Today we attended the Closing Session House of Delegates where we heard from the rest of the Resolutions authors and were able to vote to pass them into NSNA policies! At the Clothing Session we also met the new Board of Directors, including the new NSNA president! Then we had the Closing Ceremony, Award Presentations, and Endnote Address. We heard from Kenya Beard, EdD, AGACNP-BC, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, Associate Provost for Social Mission & Academic Excellence, Chamberlain University. We also had to say goodbye to some friends we made from Rutgers in New Jersey.

We feel so very grateful to have been able to attend this convention. The opportunity to network with other nursing students and organizations was so incredible!

Day 3 of the NSNA National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.
71st Annual Convention!

Today we attended the third NCLEX Mini Review bright and early once again (7am)! Then we attended the House of Delegates where we went over Resolutions written by fellow nursing students! Resolutions are written statements that, when adopted by the House of Delegates, is the basis for the policies and actions of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA). NSNA members write Resolutions to be adopted into the policies! We heard many different Resolutions including increasing education of street medicine, work violence against nurses and nursing students, nurse leadership to manage moral distress, and education for parents of patients with diabetes. There are a total of 37 Resolutions this year which is a record number!
Then we attended the presidential debate to hear from the candidates in running for NSNA President this year!
A very informative day full of important issues making nursing better for future students and nurses!

Day 2 of the NSNA National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.
71st Annual Convention!

Today we attended the second NCLEX Mini Review bright and early (7am)! Then we attended a plenary session (Nurses as Healthcare Changemakers: Stories of Care Transformation) where we heard from an ER nurse who developed a screening protocol to identify victims of human trafficking, a trauma nurse who created a tech platform to connect medically tailored meals to the dietary needs of patients experiencing food insecurity, and a nurse/chief experience officer for a health system who is building trust and connections in a rural community. (Michele Morgan, Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives, Johnson & Johnson; Danielle Bastien, RN, DNP, FNP-BC, Henry Ford Hospital, Julie Kennedy Oehlert, Chief Experience Officer, Vidant Health, Kwamane Liddell, Founder and CEO, NutriblePlenary Session)
Julie, one of the incredible speakers at this plenary session, talked so much about the love of nursing and your "why". One thing that really resonated with us was her quote "the ability to change healthcare, heal healthcare, is within my heart, and all of yours". She also said "The pandemic was an acute recognition of chronic problems".

​Our next stop was the Grand Opening of Exhibit Hall and Career Development Center (check out the pictures to see a few familiar faces and organizations!)

After this we attended the Finance Forum and another focus session called From Flight Suits to Scrubs: Emergency Nursing Careers & Specialty Certification. We learned about all of the different certifications available for nurses who are interested in trauma care and transport!

Another successful convention day, we feel so fortunate to be able to hear from such incredible speakers and people in our future profession!
