Permaculture Eco-Village in NE Washington has Openings - Potential Permanent Residency

We have openings for people to come plug into our Eco-Village project. Could be a couple or not, families or singles. We seek people for whom this opportunity resonates with their own vision forward in permaculture. The land here is calling out for Earth Stewards to come and be part of its ecosystem.

The Eco-Village is a 20-acre sanctuary seeking devotees, not in any religious sense, although it is often a spiritual quest that drives someone to embrace permaculture. The three of us are looking for people who are devoted to creating rural self-sufficiency for themselves, through permaculture, in community. We offer an environment free of economic rent and ask only for active mindful participation.

We seek farmers and builders to each contribute an average of 20 hours a week, or more if it moves you, with reasonable time off. Please note: This is not an employment opportunity. It is a lifestyle choice.

We are part way through a long, complicated process of establishing the Eco-Village land resource as a permaculture land trust and restoring the land to more resemble a commons and be collectively managed, permaculturally, in perpetuity. The Eco-Village is for demonstrating to our local community and the world what technological climb-down, humane re-connection to the natural world and voluntary simplicity look like– what permaculture looks like in practice.

We most hope to find folks who arrive open to the idea of joining the Eco-Village permanently if the situation feels right.

Interested? A couple of things: To start you would need to be debt-free and self-sufficient in terms of finances, shelter and domestic needs such as food (beyond what the Collective Farm and a personal garden can provide), warmth, electricity, waste handling and share in paying common expenses.

Applying for an apprenticeship at the Eco-Village is a two step process. Anyone can also apply as a volunteer and come to work as your schedule allows.

First there is a two-question pre-application. From those applications we will choose folks to answer a few more questions, get references, do a phone or Zoom interview and have a site visit, if feasible.

If we accept your application as an apprentice candidate, we will welcome you to join us on the farm.

All the details and the link to our pre-aaplication are at https://bzfarm.org.

TerraFlora, an established permaculture site "equidistant from Colville, Addy, and Rice, WA" created by long-time members of the Inland Northwest Permaculture Guild (and frequent contributors to Permaculture Design Magazine) Marc and Gloria Flora, is moving to CA. Here's part of their farewell message we thought we'd share:

Dept of Ag restrictions really limit the nursery plants and animals we can bring with us [to California]. We rather they go to responsible farmers and stewards than slaughter auctions or waste. We’d like to rehome them in the next month.

We have:

Navajo Churro sheep, a heritage breed with thick double-layer wool. Wide variety of colors and markings from cream to browns to black. They do well on browse making them ideal for keeping brush down along with the grass. We have 15 rams of various ages and 25 ewes, 17 of which are 2 years old or younger. Churros are easy to handle, smallish, and many are well-socialized. They have beautiful markings and coloration, easy birthers, and are good mothers.

Two Alpine goats (wethers), 5 years old, which we were training as pack goats (will include the pack frames, bags, and leads).

12 adult American Buff geese and will sell/gift family units (pairs with 1, 2, or 4 goslings) or pairs.

Chickens of various breeds, including some nice Bielefeld roosters.

Our farm is quite isolated so all the animals are very healthy.

We also have a lot of ‘resources’: garden pots, trays, potting soil, backpack sprayers, fencing, canning jars, glass gallon jugs, fire bricks, a coop full of chicken litter with biochar, and more. Much of this we’d rather trade for some of your labor than money. Prices are very negotiable; the better your farm, the better the discount!

Please help spread the word!

Thunder storms and rain showers. Oh well, you can't argue with Mother Nature. So our w**d smoking party (figuratively speaking) at the BZ farm is being scaled back. Maybe no dance tunes since we can't let the big sound system get wet, but a few die-hards have said they're still coming, so there will be pot luck lunches both days, the wood-fired hot tub is being lit right now and the w**ds haven't gone anywhere. Ready to rough it?? Come on out. Need Directions?? Text 914-246-0309 or email [email protected]. Participants get a voucher for free produce and discounts at our farmers' market stand in Colville. Liability waivers must be signed by each participant. BZ Farm is a non-profit, mutual benefit organization.

So here's what the ten-day forecast from WeatherBug calls for at Leadpoint, WA (basically a ghost town just south of us). Not encouraging. However, note the tiny little sun peeking out. Weather forecasting is hit and miss these days of climate chaos. We'll keep checking, but if the weather looks bad, we'll have to postpone our w**ding party. However, if you're a die-hard, come on out in any case and if you are Alice and Nikita, come on out anyway.

06/06/2024

Hey! If you're coming to our w**ding party on the 15th and 16th, PLEASE contact us so we can send you driving directions to the farm.

It's Time to SMOKE Our Weeds!!

Work Partay at the Bezaleel Israel Eco-Village

Saturday June 15 and Sunday the 16th, 9am to 5pm both days - unless it's raining :(

Folks! The w**ds are getting ahead of us. Please come help us get ahead of them so we can produce the lucious produce you've come to expect from the BZ Permaculture Farm Collective. We don't use any herbicides here. Just hula-hoes and busy fingers are our primary w**d defense and we need more fingers in the dirt just now. Can you make it? Can you help out? Let us know: bzfarm.org/contact

We could also use help planting, fence building, playing with our baby goats and sctratching Bu Bu the sheepdog behind his ears.

Bring tools!

Sound like fun? There will be lively dance tunes, pot luck lunches both days (bring something to share), awesome garden-fresh salads, a wood-fired hot tub and overnight camping for the hardiest among you.

If you happen to be a musician or in a band and you'd like to donate your time and talents, let us know well in advance and we'll provide the sound.

Housekeeping: Liability waivers will need to be signed by all participants.

The BZ Permaculture Farm Collective is a non-profit, mutual aid organization.
