This is a perfect animated representation of why dogs often behave the way they do and develop layers of trauma associated with human communication…. It’s so important to learn how to truly communicate in a positive and effective manner with your dog!

Punitive and dominance training and superior minded relationships with dogs has been long de-bunked by science. Dogs thrive when you develop relationships with them through understanding their body language and communication, and empower them to make the right choices with positive reinforcement guidance.

Allowing a dog to be a dog, utilizing their natural instincts is critical in relationship building. Creating a bond is rewarding, for not only you, but for your dog. When we start to look at our dogs differently, they start to respond differently…

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, BELLA! 🐾

Hi, I’m Bella! I’m a 6 year-old Golden Retriever who is gorgeous inside and out. I weigh approximately 66 pounds.

Happy, personable, sweet, smart, affectionate, “velcro-shadow” of a Golden. My foster mom says I’m the best foster pup she’s ever had, and easily the most beautiful! I’m a bright companion with such a unique and loving personality- smiling and my tail is always wagging. I crave love, attention, and affection and I love lots and lots of petting, though I will never beg you for it. My favorite activities are: being wherever my “people” are, patiently waiting for treats, car rides and carrying my stuffy toys around wherever I go.

Social and friendly with everyone I meet! I love to sit with my foster dad while he’s working on his laptop. Otherwise, I usually follow my foster mom around step-for-step, and lie on the floor close to her feet. I’m happy just knowing where my special people are. Have not been around children, but I’m so happy and friendly, I’d likely love them as long as they are aware that my happy tail wags might accidentally bump into them.

I'm comfortable with other dogs that I meet and I get along well with my 3 foster siblings. Cats are unknown, but I have such a calm temperament, I'd likely be fine with them! I'm a moderate energy gal who enjoys exploring my foster family’s yard, retrieving balls and playing with my foster siblings. I play for a bit outside, and then go back inside to settle, enjoy the A/C and carry my stuffy toys around in my mouth :)

So if you can open your heart and home to a perfectly well-mannered, calm, sweet Golden who is ready to dedicate all her love to you…I’m your girl! I am a happy, affectionate, loving pup who is beautiful inside and out. I’m ready to be your best friend and ultimate companion if you’re ready for a lifetime of Golden love!
Luv, Bella

✨Happy Gotcha Day, Grayson!✨

Grayson is a 2 year old Golden who was surrendered to AGN when his first owners couldn’t devote the time and attention he needed as a puppy. Grayson’s foster family stopped at nothing to help him regain trust and blossom into the amazing young Golden boy he is today! Happily, Grayson has found the perfect forever home with a dedicated mom and dad as well as an 8-year old brother who has become his best buddy! Only happy days ahead for you, Grayson!

Hooray, Grayson!

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, MAGGIE! 🐾

Hi, I’m Maggie, I’m an almost 1 year old Golden Retriever. I weigh 56 pounds right now and my weight is perfect!

I'm super sweet, energetic, goofy and fun! I’m a “velcro shadow” who follows you around, but I’m not demanding of your attention. I love to be right with you, but I don’t typically snuggle up on the couch with you…I’ll steal your seat, though, if you get up :) I’m truly the best girl! I’m a happy, older puppy with all the fun, silliness and sometimes challenges that go with it. All part of an older Golden puppy!

I can be shy at first when I meet new people, but quickly become your best friend. I’m great with children and have lived with them my entire life. I could easily knock tiny humans down as I’m bouncy and strong.

I lived as an only dog in my previous home so it took some time for me to warm up to my furry foster siblings. My best buddy now is my young Golden foster sister as we play a lot and snuggle up on a dog bed together. I’m neutral/confident in temperament in the dog “pack” and get along with all dogs in the home. I need a confident dog companion who’ll keep me in check when needed. I am a moderate to high energy gal. I get A LOT of exercise and playtime with my foster siblings, and settle nicely in the evenings.

Special Needs: I’ve been diagnosed with early stage hip dysplasia in my left hip by Dr. Au (board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Blue Pearl). I do NOT need surgery and I do NOT have symptoms, but MUST have someone focused on keeping me lean throughout my life and someone committed to daily exercise via walking, gentle hiking, swimming (any low impact exercising). This will help maintain my pelvic muscle mass without exacerbating the hip dysplasia. I should avoid off-leash, high impact motion such as chasing a ball, running and romping at dog parks, etc. I can run and play with dogs, but it needs to be in a controlled setting. This conservative management may allow me to never require surgery in the future. The critical component is keeping me lean! I will also need a glucosamine supplement such as Dasuquin Advanced and an Omega supplement such as Nordic Naturals or Welactin for the rest of my life.

So, if you’re looking for a super sweet, older puppy and you fully understand and are committed to my orthopedic needs… I’m your perfect pup! I must have an avid walker that walks me every day on a leash and takes me swimming as this will maximize the needs for my early stage hip dysplasia. Please understand that what YOU do with me on a daily basis determines my future with my hip. Think low impact and not high impact. Think mental stimulation and canine enrichment. These are things that will help me thrive. Force free/positive reinforcement training classes of varying kinds are a great idea for me. I’d be wonderful at rally, nose works, tricks and games, obedience, etc. There are so many opportunities for me to live a happy, full life with you! I have a heart full of love to share with you and endless opportunities! Let’s make a lifetime of memories together!
Luv, Maggie

Happy Gotcha Day Indy!

Indy is an approximately 2-year-old Golden Retriever that was found by a good samaritan who did everything to find his owners, but to no avail. AGN came to came to the rescue and Indy blossomed in his foster home. He quickly found the perfect forever family that includes a mom and sister who absolutely adore him!

Hooray Indy!

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, TEDDY! 🐾

Hi! I’m Teddy a goofy, sweet and friendly pup! I am a 2 year old puppy who is affectionate, energetic, and eager to please. Although I am 2, I still have so much puppy charm, energy, and mischief. I am 60 pounds and on the thin side, so my goal weight is 70lbs.

I’m so loving, curious and friendly. I have bouts of playful energy, but with structured exercise (walks) and playtime throughout my day, I settle in nicely in the evenings. I am mostly untrained, so I need lots of direction. I am easily redirected and a quick learner. Formal, positive reinforcement obedience classes are recommended to will help me continue to develop into the amazing dog that I know I am!

I am friendly with everyone I meet. I LOVE meeting new people and I may initially jump up initially but respond well to positive corrections. I’ve interacted well with children when they’ve visited my foster home.

I have three furry dog buddies in my foster home, and I get along great with them all. I am confident but not dominant, I am a get along and go along dog that all the other dogs in the house like. Cats are unknown.

Active and energetic, medium energy. I love to run, romp, and play in my yard and inside the house. I get a lot of exercise and go for walks at least 3 times a day (2-3 miles total). I’m sniffing, exploring and playing most of the time I am outside.

I’ll charm you with my friendly, playful, goofy personality—I have so much love to give my future forever family! I need a forever home that active, committed to my training, and is eager to give me attention I crave as an older puppy! Through a consistent routine that includes lots of playtime, leashed walks, and positive reinforcement, I will continue to blossom into an amazing companion. I am overflowing with unconditional love just waiting for YOU!

Luv, Teddy

🐻 We dare you to find a bigger Golden Teddy Bear than Orphan Bradley! 🐻

This sweet boy was SAVED from SLAUGHTER from the meat trade in Asia and is living his best life in his foster home, the only thing he needs now is the perfect forever family. Bradley’s foster mom reports that he has adapted well to a routine, loves going on walks and all people, but his most favorite activity is getting lots and lots of pets!

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, ODEN! 🐾

Hi, I’m Oden…AKA: Odie. I’m a 1 year old, male Golden Retriever. I weigh approximately 65 pounds. I have a beautiful, deep red/mahogany colored coat (not fully reflected in the photos…think Irish Setter colored coat). I’ve still even got some puppy coat with my ears, which is quite cute!

Blossoming each day into the Golden I’m meant to be! I’m a happy go lucky sweetheart who’s loving, playful, curious and energetic. I’m your typical older puppy Golden…a bouncy ball of joyful exuberance who’s the ultimate “velcro shadow”. I crave attention and affection. I’m eager to please. I cherish my foster family and furry siblings…I just want to be wherever they are as being totally alone makes me sad. I’m full of puppy energy, mouthy and jumpy when excited, but settle down nicely as long as I get plenty of exercise, socialization and mental stimulation. My personality continues to shine more and more each day!

LOVE all people! Social and friendly with everyone. I’m more comfortable with women in new situations at first. Good with children and used to live with them. They should be sturdy on their feet, as I can accidently knock them down with my excitement.

Good with other dogs. Neutral in temperament. Learning the fun of playing with my two Golden foster brothers. LOVE TOYS…ALL TOYS AND BALLS! I “shop” in the toy basket, taking one out at a time. I really love my stuffies that squeak. I like to shake them so big and/or long stuffies are perfect for me. Moderate – High energy. I’m not hyper and calm down nicely for my age.

If you’re looking for a young LOVE BUG who’s super sweet, smart, silly and craves affection…I’m your perfect pup! I’m an older puppy and everything that comes with that, so be ready to commit time and energy to meet my needs. I require lots of exercise, mental stimulation and force free/positive reinforcement training. I have a heart full of love to share with you! Let’s make a lifetime of memories together!

Luv, Oden

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN HONEY! 🐾

Hi, I’m Honey. I’m as sweet as my name indicates. I’m an approximately 7 year old, female Golden Retriever. I weigh 75 pounds and every ounce of me is pure love!

Super sweet, loving, social, good natured, gentle! I’m full of happiness and joy. I crave your affection, attention and will never say no to snuggles and belly rubs. I love everyone and just want you to love me. I’m an easy going Golden who’s as close to perfect as it gets. To know me is to love me!

I’m good with dogs and look to my Golden siblings for guidance. I have a 5 year old Golden brother and 7 year old Golden sister. I especially love to follow around my Golden foster brother and snuggle up with him. I thrive on companionship with dog friends, but I’m not one to play much. Learning about toys and balls. Occasionally, I’ll walk around with a ball or stuffy in my mouth, but I prefer a good chew bone.

I’m low to moderate in energy overall. I like my walks and trips to the dog park, but I’m one to just walk around a greet people at the dog park verses running and playing. I’m super smart with major potential if force free/positive reinforcement training is maximized. Learning leash walking. When I came to AGN, it was obvious I’d never been on or even seen a leash. Now, I get excited when I see the leash and I’m ready for my walk.

I’m truly the sweetest, most gentle and beautiful Golden girl who you’ll fall in love with! If you’re looking for the ultimate companion to love and adore, I’m your girl! I live for your love! I have such a sad past, but I’m a survivor. I have such a bright future with you by my side. Are you ready to start our wonderful journey together?

Luv, Honey

🐾 URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES! 🐾

Want to be a healing bridge for Golden Orphans waiting for their forever home? WE NEED YOU!

AGN needs foster families to provide loving, temporary homes! Without foster homes, we face having to turn away Goldens in need.

**All fosters will be trained and all expenses for AGN foster dogs are paid for by AGN.

AGN HAS A SPECIAL NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES WITH NO OTHER DOGS! This is for our rescued Goldens who need special care or who prefer to be only dogs in their adoptive homes.

Golden Retrievers come into rescue for many reasons. Some have sad pasts of abuse, neglect, etc. Some have behavioral issues that need rehabilitation. Some come from shelters. Some are surrendered due to families not having enough time for them, etc. The list goes on. It is the mission of AGN to serve as a bridge for these Goldens from their past lives to their future with their forever families. Our foster families play a critical role in that healing.

Foster homes must meet the following requirements:

• Plenty of time at home to help our rescued Goldens heal emotionally and/or physically from their past, with time to focus on positive reinforcement behavior modification if needed.

• Physical fence - Although we do not allow our Goldens to be outside unattended, this is to maximize safety when out to potty, play, etc.

• Children must be 5 years old and over - AGN may not have history of the Golden's interactions in their past with children. This is for safety.

• Understanding that this is not pet sitting. These Goldens have a past that brought them into rescue. They may have issues that need to be worked through, whether it be basic positive reinforcement training, house training, socialization, separation anxiety, medical issues, fear of strangers, fear reactivity with other dogs, resource guarding, etc. It’s the role of the foster family, with the assistance of AGN, to help the Golden heal and prepare for their future forever home.

If interested in helping Goldens in need, fill out a foster application here:
https://www.adoptagoldennashville.org/become-a-foster/

AGN will do a vet check on past/current pets, phone interview and home visit. **All pets in the home of foster families must be spay/neutered and updated on vaccinations. Titers are accepted.

🐾WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, OAKLEY! 🐾

Hi, I’m Oakley. I’m an 8-month-old Golden Retriever. I’m approximately 50 pounds. Although still growing, I’m not going to be a large Golden.

Sweet, smart, social, spunky, playful, energetic, curious, observant and fun! I have two personalities right now…I’m in that phase where I’m sweet, happy, and cuddly one minute and then transform to the classic “teenager” with over-stimulation where I’m mouthy, jumpy, mischievous and vocal. I’m a great older puppy with a lot of love to share as long as you’re patient with my learning and willing to maximize my potential.

Social butterfly who never meets a stranger. I’m excited to meet everyone. I love playing with children, but they should be old enough to respect my boundaries and be able to execute “Trade for a Treat” correctly.

Love other dogs! Confident male who loves to play, play, play! I have two furry foster siblings who I’d run, wrestle and play with non-stop if they wanted. I’d do best with active dogs who enjoy playing as much as I do.

If you’re looking for an active furry companion that settles down into a calm and relaxed love bug…one who’s sweet, silly, snuggly, and a velcro shadow with major potential…you won’t find a more fun, happy dog than me. I’m waiting for that special someone who’ll continue my force-free/positive reinforcement training and socialization, always “Trade for a Treat, tire me out each day with fun outdoor adventures, and offer me unconditional love and cuddles. Could you be that special someone to make my dreams come true?

Luv, Oakley

🐾 WELCOME NEW ORPHAN, HANK 🐾

Hi, my name is Hank. I may be a 10-year-old hound mix, but I'm an honorary Golden. I weighed 51 pounds at intake and working on gaining a little weight. I'm like a doggy supermodel...tall and lean, but not a fan of the photo shoots.

Sweet, shy and gentle soul who enjoys the simple things in life...comfy beds for naps with my stuffies, sun on my face, rolling in the grass and just taking it easy. Lke a Golden, I'm a "velcro shadow" that follows my foster parents and furry siblings around, proudly showing my stuffy toy. I'm a calm and quiet fella, not a barker. Although laid back in temperament, I'm also playful at times and like to run like the wind. I'm fast...Olympics fast!

Sweetly shy. Cautious and aware of my surroundings, so it takes some time for me to warm up to new people. Once I feel comfortable and trust you, I'll follow you around with my stuffy. I'm learning to enjoy affection from my humans. I have no experience with children in my foster home, but am not suitable for young children.

Once I'm comfortable with another dog, I do great. Slow introductions are best. While I like to be around other dogs, I insist on eating alone. Cats unknown, but I’m not a critter chaser.

I have so much life and love to give. I'm a low-key and easy going sweetheart who's the perfect gentleman. I'm just looking for a true forever family to share my golden years with. I don't ask for much…love, kindness, comfy beds and lots of stuffy toys. I can't tell you about my past, but my precious heart was broken when I was surrendered to a shelter after all my years of love and loyalty to my previous family. I'm hoping someone will open their hearts and home to a sweet, older fella like me who just wants to be loved unconditionally.

Luv, Hank

🐾PLEASE MEET ORPHAN LEO 🐾

Hi, my name is Leo. I'm a 4 year old Golden Retriever. I weigh 81 pounds.

Super sweet, super smart, snuggly, social, loving, happy, playful, and active! I'm the ultimate 'velcro shadow" who adores my humans. I'm a "needy" Golden with some initial trust issues. I live to be loved, craving human affection. I sometimes resource guard (likely due to a bad experience at a board and train which created initial trust issues). Trading with me for a treat and having two balls to throw during fetch is key. My foster will show you how. I’m a fun-loving Golden who enjoys both outdoor activities with my family and cuddling up on the couch to snuggle. I’ll impress you with the high level of commands that I know and have the potential to do most anything. Yes, I’m awesome!

Social and friendly with everyone. I just want to be petted by everyone...anyone! Great with other dogs as long as toys and balls are not involved. I’m not one to share. Good with cats.

LOVE all toys and balls! You'll see me with multiple in my mouth. Ball-obsessed and love to play fetch. The key is to use two balls...one to throw and the second ball to throw for me to drop the first one.

Well mannered gentleman! No crate for me! Moderate energy overall with high energy bursts. Must get lots of exercise, mental stimulation and playtime with dog friends. I enjoy daily walks, swimming, hiking and car rides.

I desire to feel safe and secure. I need to trust those around me due to my past. I need someone who understands dogs and their emotional needs. I'm a rescue dog who's been through a lot recently, so do not have unrealistic expectations of me. With that said, if you're looking for a true companion who's full of love to give...a sweetheart who loves to go for daily walks, play, relax and snuggle, then look no further! I'm patiently waiting to find my special someone. Could it be you?

Luv, Leo
