Did Someone Call?

So I was going to hang onto this news and announce it a bit later, but word is starting to leak so I'm going to go ahead and spill the beans - over the past few months I've been working with the Nashville Historical Commission and petitioned them to get a historical marker for Russ McCown, better-known as Nashville's horror host of the 70s and 80s, Sir Cecil Creape.

I was beyond thrilled when they approved the marker, and am stoked to see this happen for the city of Nashville. We're still wrapping up the details and don't have a date for the unveiling yet. More to come but this is great news for Music City!!

New episode this week!

I'm wrapping up Film Noir month in the Cinetarium with a new episode this week - the 1953 road film The Hitchhiker! Directed by the great Ida Lupino, this underappreciated classic is gritty, fast-paced and unrelenting. If you've never seen this one definitely check it out, it's a good one!

It's the Return of the HORROR HOOTENANNY!

After a couple years hiatus it's risen from the crypt, Dr. Gangrene's Horror Hootenanny! This year's lineup is a killer - FORBIDDEN DIMENSION return to Music City from the frozen tundra of Alberta, Canada, and will be joined by Gnashville's own graveyard rockers THE CREEPING CRUDS and THE PHANTOMS OF SATURN. I'll be on hand to host the festivities and as always we'll have a costume contest with killer prizes and more, so stay tuned for more details!

This month in the Cinetarium - it's alien invasion films all month, with a new episode on the 11th with Killers from Space. Saturdays at 9pm central (10 e) on Nashville's Necat ch9 (Comcast) - or you can watch on the Necat Roku channel and drgangrene.com.

This week's prescribed dose of horror therapy from the Cinetarium is the 1972 Spanish film Vengeance of the Zombies, starring the incomparable Paul Naschy. I'll have special guests Rod Barnett and Troy Guinn of the NaschyCast in the lab to talk about Vengeance and all things Naschy in nature. Saturday at 9pm central on Nashville's Necat Arts ch9.

This Saturday we have a Halloween treat for all you ghouls - a special horror host
Halloween team-up and Vincent Price Double-feature with my good pal Marlena Midnight. First up, at 7pm central, Marlena will be hosting HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, followed at 9pm by the Physician of Fright himself hosting an all-new episode of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH. Then immediately following that we kick off the Dr. Gangrene Halloween marathon - 72 hours of all Doc Gangrene and crew through Halloween evening.

It's all happening on Nashville's NECAT Arts CH9, and simulcast on the Necat Roku channel (just search for Necat then click the arts tab).

The acid drenched madness begins at 7pm - be there or be a plague infested vampire!

I just found out from my pal John Dimes that Doc Gangrene is in the latest issue of The Saturday Evening Post, in an article about horror hosts (alongside his character, Doctor Sarcofiguy, Svengoolie, and Count Gore De Vol). How exciting! I had no idea. Gonna have to try and track down a print copy. They have a promotional video for the issue here:
