Today, Spokane City Council had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the young ladies of SWAG (Strong Women Achieving Greatness). The ladies visited with Council Member Zack Zappone Council President Betsy Wilkerson and experienced their own mock legislative session. Their topic was dating ages starting at 16. The debate was rich in lived experiences, real-life examples, and scenarios on why it is good or bad. The ladies voted 5-2 that dating under 16 should be prohibited. Good job, ladies! πππ
Please note the following regarding Council Meetings
With continued hot and dry conditions in our region, flows in the Spokane River have dropped below 1,000 cubic feet per second (cfs), and the City of Spokane is calling on citizens to implement additional water conservation measures.
The measures are part of a City ordinance passed in 2022. The ordinance details two levels of water conservation and prioritizes responsible water use to protect the river and the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer. Mayor Lisa Brown is happy to announce Kevin Hall as the new Chief of the City of Spokane Police Department. From public feedback to department personnel, it was clear our community wants a leader who demonstrates character, integrity, and accountability, brings best practices to the department, and is dedicated to the safety of everyone in our community. Chief Hall is that leader and I am grateful that he has agreed to serve in this role. https://my.spokanecity.org/news/releases/2024/07/11/kevin-hall-selected-as-new-spokane-police-chief/
