Despite changes and a new state law allowing the Florida Board of Medicine to better regulate and discipline doctors when a patient dies or is seriously hurt, the death rate from BBLs has increased. At least 19 women have lost their lives in the South Florida area following the cosmetic surgery in the last five years. “In 2019, because of all the deaths, the Florida Board of Medicine put a rule stating that doctors could no longer inject fat into the muscle,” said Dr. Pat Pazmiño, a board certified plastic surgeon based in Miami.

According to NBC6 in South Florida, the Florida Board of Medicine made the decision to limit the number of BBLs performed a day by plastic surgeons to three. The limit is to help avoid fatigue, which some surgeons have advocated for in an effort to reduce risk. “Every surgeon who does the whole Brazilian butt lift knows that this is a very taxing procedure, mentally and physically,” Pazmiño said.

The board also mandated surgeons use ultrasound technology when performing BBLs to avoid injecting fat into the muscle, which can cause a pulmonary embolism - the main cause of death in patients who have died following the procedure.

🗣Over 7 years difference between these two pics. Ladies remember your body will fluctuate throughout the years with weight gain, weight loss, child birth, etc … We are human AND we are women the way you look prior to surgery is nothing you’ll look like after , and then probably nothing you’ll look like even years later. My body has changed so much throughout the years as my weight has fluctuated post op between 160-203 while pregnant. I’m still extremely happy with my results and what Dra.Duran did for me & it’s almost a decade later.

‼️The picture on the left was taken in 2015 ( a year and a 1/2 after my bbl and lipo with her. And 6 months after my breast augmentation with ) .freiman ) & the picture on the right was taken last Saturday 01/08/22 almost 2 months after giving birth to my daughter. In the pic on the left I was probably about 160. In the pic on the right about 185 . I no longer have that shelf that I used too really carved it out during surgery as you can see from a few of the pics in my next post.
