"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup." – Buddy the Elf

Our little "elves" got busy decorating Christmas Cookies at our Christmas party this past weekend. Is there really such a thing as too many sprinkles!?!?

We first met these girls when they were 6 years old, and now they will be entering their final year of camp next summer. It is our absolute privilege to watch these children grow as we serve them year after year at Camp and Mentoring Club.

It's more than just a squishmallow....it's something that belongs to the child! And when belongings are often left behind as a child moves from one home to another, an item that belongs just to them is a treasured possession!

Would you considering purchasing a gift for a child in foster care this Cyber Week? They will treasure that gift as something that is all their own!

Language and Why it Matters 16/11/2023

November is National Adoption Month.

Would you take a few minutes to learn about why the language we use to talk about adoption and foster care is so important?

Our words can bring hurt or healing; when we know better we do better and can honor all those involved in adoption and foster care through our words.

Morgan's Story 14/11/2023

"When Morgan’s foster mom heard about Royal Family KIDS Camp she immediately signed her up. Morgan had the time of her life at camp that week and came back with a new light in her eyes. She was able to absorb the love of God and the love of other people in a way that led her to be ready for adoption by this family."

You might not be able to tell from the picture but he was too excited to talk as we welcomed him to our first Mentoring Club meeting last month! The feeling was mutual. We are so excited to connect with our campers throughout this school year at Club!

At Mentoring Club we asked the kids what they were grateful for. *Nadine shared that while her mom is addicted to drugs she is grateful that God saved her. We are grateful for that too! And praying for this sweet girl, her mom and her current caregiver, that they would each receive what they need despite the difficult circumstances that surround them.

Fishing is another favorite activity for most of the campers. Fishing encompasses so much; the peacefulness of just being by the water, the patience involved in getting all the kids a pole, the anticipation while waiting for a fish to bite and the excitement of catching a fish! The smiling faces when a fish is reeled in are priceless and those pictures go directly into their memory books for them to remember forever. It is an activity center that some kids have never experienced, but one that they won't ever forget!

To say the rock wall has been a hit would be an understatement! The kids seem to flock to it as soon as they know that it is open. It provides all with a challenge to try something new and to do the best they can. Ringing the bell at the top of the wall brings joy and cheers! It also provides character building opportunities. One boy tried for 1 1/2 hours to reach the bell at the top of one of the climbs; he was learning to persevere!

Every child participated in tie dying a t-shirt. This activity center allows for much creativity and a memento to take home at the end of the week. It's a great time for interaction between the mentor and child. While the mentor may give suggestions on the pattern or colors, ultimately the child gets to make all the decisions. Many of the kids were wearing their shirts proudly on the last day of camp!

Every year Nina makes the girls' hair dreams come to life with curls, braids, extensions and so much more. Nina brings her professional experience as a stylist to camp and the girls love the extra attention that gets paid to their hair throughout the week!

Archery is a popular activity center. The kids learned patience and sharpened their listening skills as they had to very carefully follow the directions of the instructor to keep everyone safe. Due to the small number of targets some of the kids had to wait and watch their friends shoot first. There was pride and accomplishment when their arrow left their bow, buzzed through the air and hit the target!

One of the fun traditions we have instilled over the years is to present each graduate with a handmade quilt. Each quilt is made with so much care and love. The quilts are forever a reminder of the love the child felt at camp.

Every child who attends camp goes home with a photo album filled with pictures of their week. For many children this is a prized possession as it helps them relive the memories of camp all year round. It is not uncommon for the children to bring their photo books from previous years back to camp. It is one way that we

One of our core values is to Treat People Royally and one way we do that at camp is the Formal Dinner. Both the boys and the girls have the opportunity to get dressed up for this fancy and fun dinner. The girls wear old prom and wedding dresses while most of the boys choose superhero costumes. Our staff escorts each child down the red carpet and into the decorated mess hall for a grand entrance and royal applause. The staff then proceeds to serve each child their plate of food for the meal. It is a great opportunity for us to serve the kids by treating them like the royalty they are. Sounds fun? We would love to have you join us!

Peggy brought along some books to read to the little girls at bedtime. One of her books had the phrase “God believes in you” on each page. As she read the book to *Jayme she would point at the little girl every time she read the word “you”. After a few pages Jayme looked at her and said, “And God believes in you”, pointing back to Peggy. In a moment where Peggy had been trying to bless this little girl she left feeling blessed herself.

What do caregivers have to say about camp?

"RFKC has had such a positive impact on *Donnie. This will be his third year attending. I signed him up soon after he first moved in with us, because I had heard about this camp through our church and everything I had heard and knew about it sounded wonderful. We really wanted *Donnie to experience it and are so thankful he has been able to attend. I remember picking him up after his first week, and he was non-stop chattering on the drive home telling me all about it and about all of you, the awesome volunteers! He would listen to the songs he learned at camp on repeat and wanted us to hear them too. He often flips through the pictures that you sent home with him and these will be a special keepsake for him for years to come. The skills you teach, the strong moral character you encourage and reinforce for us, the love from Jesus that you pour out, matters so much to him and to us. Thanks to you, he knows he belongs, he is valued, he is loved, and very hard situations can be redeemed. I am so glad the campers can relate with each other, and know that others have gone through similar difficulties and that there is hope. Thank you all so much for the time and energy you pour into Royal Family Kids Camp! We have all benefited as a family from this pre and post-adoption support!!"

We love it when our paths happen to cross with one of our campers within the community. When Joyce crossed paths with *Nick he was eager to tell her about his memories from camp and ask her to say "hi" to his mentor. But he specifically told her that he had made one of his "Caught You Being Good" coins into a magnet to hang in his locker at school. When his friends ask him about it he tells them they have to be caught being good too! It seems like such a simple token but it has had a lasting impact on Nick, well beyond the week of camp!

We are motivated by the example Christ set, to share a common goal, of caring for those Jesus referred to as, “the least of these.” We do this by providing unconditional love, hope and safety to children in foster care through Royal Family KIDS Camp and Mentoring.🌱💔

A recent article from the UK highlights the role that memory holds in shaping our mental health. Childhood scars may fade, but the way we process them makes all the difference. Moments Matter!

Trauma-informed training is crucial for our volunteers. It equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support children who have experienced trauma.

Our camp curriculum and activities are woven through the modality of Trust-Based Relational Intervention to ensure our children are experiencing truly life giving activities throughout the 5-day experience.

Did you know that one in four children in the United States will experience some form of relational trauma before the age of 18? This can include abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

But there is hope. Royal Family Kids is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing life-changing moments for children who have experienced relational trauma.

Our Camp and Mentoring Club programs foster resiliency, self-esteem, hope and positive memories. The curriculum and activities are woven through the modality of Trust-Based Relational Intervention to ensure our children are experiencing truly life-giving activities throughout their experience.

Children learn how to build healthy relationships, express their emotions, and cope with trauma. They also have the opportunity to make new friends, have fun, and just be kids.

Your help can be the fuel to provide these life-changing moments for more children. Visit our website to donate!

We are on a journey of profound growth and inspiration, and it’s because of our faith in God and the local church.

Our program curriculum is rooted in the stories and lessons of the Bible. With the wisdom of God and the support of our communities, we’re nurturing healthy relationships and giving children in foster care the tools to continue to develop healthy relationships.

Our Story

Central WI Royal Family Kids Camp is the #1 summer camp and mentoring program for foster kids ages 6-12 in Central Wisconsin. We seek to encourage, uplift, and empower kids in the foster care system.

At camp we provide positive experiences that have a lasting impact in our kids’ lives. We want them to know how amazing and special each one of them is.

These kids don’t have much; they often travel from home to home with their few belongings thrown into trash bags. But at Camp every child receives a duffel bag with a bible, activity book, a photo album with memories from camp, an mp3 player with camp songs and uplifting stories, t-shirts, and much more! We seek to treat each child royally, with the goal of helping them to recognize that despite what has happened in their live they have value.

According to a study conducted by the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, camps using our model, serving kids of abuse and neglect, have immediate and positive effects on both the physical and emotional well-being of our campers.

Additionally, in an attempt to be effective in our ministry to foster kids, our volunteers all receive specialized training in working with kids of abuse.

This camp is 100% volunteer, and all of the money raised for camp goes back into the kids. All of it. We are doing this for the kids! However, none of this is possible without people like you. Without your time, your stewardship, and your financial donations this life changing experience cannot happen.
