Jim and Sarah Klein, and Alison Fletcher introduced the students at Comfort Elementary to the many sounds, shapes, and silliness of the symphony. A superhero even showed up with her most treasured companion (hint: it was not her husband). All in preparation for the children's concerts preceding the season opener Oct 5. What an honor to have commissioned composer, Donald Grantham, and guest conductor, Jerry Junkin, on the Schreiner University campus conducting the Symphony of the Hills commemorating Schreiner's Centennial. The world premiere of "Everyone Sang" was thrilling, and soprano Haley Dove Montoya was in outstanding form.

Supporting the mission of “expanding music appreciation and developing the musical talents of young people,” the Symphony of the Hills is once again bringing Children’s Adventures in Music to area schools.
Every season, approximately 1,700 area students receive in-school presentations at Center Point, Ingram, Hunt, four KISD elementary schools, Covenant Academy, Harper Elementary, Fredericksburg Middle School, and St. Mary’s Elementary School in Fredericksburg. A TEKS-certified lesson plan is distributed to teachers 30 days prior to the Children’s Concerts, in which music teachers are given the tools to teach students about the pieces to be performed, their composers, the era and country in which the music was written, as well as the emotion and storytelling behind those pieces.
Jennifer Mitchell organizes this program. Here is the presentation in Ingram with:
Sarah Klein, Base
Mark Nugent, cello
Sabrina Marlene Stovall, Bassoon
Alison Jean Fletcher, violin

“This piece goes from fieriness to melancholy reflectiveness ending with ecstatic excitement," Liu said. "Although this piece is quasi-free with various elements, I like to represent the whole concerto as one story."
Prize-winning cellist and international performer Qizhen Liu will be featured soloist at the season-opening concert of Symphony of the Hills on Oct 5, at 7:00 p.m., at the Cailloux Theater in Kerrville. https://www.symphonyofthehills.org/qizhen-liu-featured-cellist-at-next-symphony-concert-oct-5/ Symphony of the Hills
