Being SET when a disaster occurs will allow you to follow the Disaster Plan that you and your family crafted.
๐ You would already have a go-bag packed at your home and small go-bags in each car in case you are caught on the road.
๐ Critical documents will have been copied, stored in a safe place, and scanned to the cloud.
๐ก You are prepared for power outages and have two plans if you have critical medical needs that require power
๐ Don't forget to work with your doctor to have extra medications in your go-bag to last 7-10 days.
Make sure your home is READY in the event of an emergency by taking time to harden your house against disasters.
๐ฟ Clearing vegetation from around your structure and removing combustible items that are within five feet can keep an ember cast from a fire from damaging your home.
๐ Make sure you know how to secure your power and gas in case of an earthquake.
๐ Creating a Family Disaster Plan is a great way for you and your family to learn about preparedness and help each other remain calm during an event.
Having a plan and talking through some possible scenarios will help you and your family be prepared and possibly help others.
Being ready for any type of emergency can feel like an enormous task to complete and maintain. Taking the time to look ahead and plan can make all the difference in the world for you and your family. Your Fire Department recommends working toward preparedness using โReady, Set & Go.โ
Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we learn more about being Ready, Getting Set, and Going in the event of an emergency!

At 11:20 am tomorrow, FEMA and the FCC will alert all activated cellphones, televisions and radios nationwide. Do not be alarmed! This is a routine test to ensure the emergency alert system is working correctly. You do not need to do anythingโฆ and do not call 9-1-1.
There will be a prescribed burn in the Thousand Hills area outside of the City limits today and tomorrow (Oct 2-3). You may see smoke over the hills. This routine work helps to create defensible areas in the event of a wildfire. We would like to thank CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo Unit and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council for their active management to protect our communities.
