Due to the storms from last night. We are receiving a lot of calls for storm damage restoration. We are also dealing with this, flooding of the shop has apparently had a negative effect on several projects, we will make it right. We try to be at properties within 24 to 48 hours for temporary repairs or as needed. We have crews to go and do this as well. Many restoration repairs will be part of a Insurance mitigation process. We will still be able to start and do the work in many cases. Prayers for all! Glen

If you are doing any tuck pointing or mortar work on foundations. Please test your mortar before you go to the job. I was color testing a type S and it would not set. I have never seen mortar fail to set, glad it was a test. I primarily use type N, S or M depending on the requirements for the job. I will not name the brand, may have been a goof in the batch mix. My driveway now has test mixes from different manufacturers all over it (on cardboard). Mortar is pretty simple: Portland cement, lime and sand in different ratios. Pre mixes are great, test them first. Blessings!

Five years ago, the roof was replaced on this house and the homeowner paid the contractors extra to put up metal strips to prevent black streaks (algae growth) on the light grey roof. Shingle manufacturers warantee up to 5 years of protection against streaking, but it’s pro-rated, meaning you still could see streaks. The homeowner called us for a free roof inspection because the roof looked awful— ugly, black streaks were obvious. We performed the inspection and found the roof in good condition, but the strips that had been installed were made of aluminum, which doesn’t stop algae growth at all. Zinc, copper or lead are the only metals that will stop algae growth. We were hired to soft-wash her roof (and siding) to make it look like new, and then install zinc strips to prevent black streaks on the roof once and for all. These are photos taken after the entire job was complete, I’m sorry I forgot to take pictures beforehand as the results were rather striking.
