WHO K.NEW, PLLC
WHO K.NEW offers virtual counseling sessions to individuals or couples located in Texas.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR has been extensively researched and proven to be effective, especially when dealing with trauma. It can be used to treat disorders such as anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual assault, grief, addictions, and other distressing life events. The bilateral simulations (eye movement, tapping, or audio simulations) help the individual process the painful event, allowing normal healing to resume. After a successful EMDR treatment, the meaning of the painful memory will be transformed at an emotional level. The event is still remembered, but the protective response (fight, flight, or freeze) from the original event is resolved.
If you are interested in EMDR, please email [email protected].
I do have a limited number of sliding-scale spots available at this moment.
Here are three ways to help you get the most out of your counseling session!
There are a lot of benefits to seeing a mental health professional. Below are just a few.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychological treatment that has proven to be effective in treating a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, marital problems, and severe mental illnesses. You do not have to have a mental health condition to benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy. It can be an effective tool to help you manage stressful life situations.
CBT treatment is a collaborative process in which the counselor and client work together to understand the problem and develop a tailored treatment plan. The client's active involvement not only enhances the effectiveness of the therapy but also empowers the individual in their journey.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms! I hope you feel loved and appreciated not only today but every day. You play an essential role in your family and your child’s life. They are watching and learning from you whether you are aware or not. What are you teaching your children by your words and actions?
In the United States, nearly one in five adults live with a mental illness, meaning that throughout your day, you cross paths with someone living with a mental illness. A coworker, a family member, the student in your class, or the stranger you walk past in the grocery store.
Maybe it’s you.
This month is a chance to prioritize, educate, and raise awareness for those who are living with a mental health illness or struggling with a substance abuse disorder. It’s a chance to show those who are struggling that they are not alone and to help end the stigma surrounding mental health.
You see it everywhere: “It’s okay not to be okay.” While this is true, do not let it be a reason to avoid seeking help. You are not alone, so you do not need to suffer alone. Hurt people, hurt people. Seek out the help you need to become the best version of yourself.
Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
“Daily, they deal with critical incidents, life-threatening situations, and the constant pressure of upholding the law. These stressors can accumulate over time, impacting not just their work performance, but their personal lives as well. It’s like carrying a backpack that gets heavier each day, and without the right support, it can become too much to bear.” -AS, Relevance, 2024.
I love that quote from a recent blog post on their website. I think it captures in a couple of sentences the heaviness of what our law enforcement and first responders experience daily. I could swap “upholding the law” and describe all of our first responders who, with unwavering resilience, sacrifice daily to serve the community. I have heard the stories and seen firsthand how the sacrifices they make affect their personal lives. I see your strength as an officer, firefighter, dispatcher, paramedic, nurse, doctor, whatever your role may be. I am here to help you learn how to manage the emotions of the trauma and stress you experience daily. I am here to serve you and your family.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has proven to be highly effective in equipping individuals with the coping skills necessary to navigate daily stressful situations. This tangible solution is readily available to help you manage the stress you face in your roles, ensuring that you are never alone in your journey.
As you mentally prepare for this week, think about what your daily reminders need to be. Keep these reminders visible, post them on the fridge or the mirror, or even set them as your screen saver. Choose to have a positive mindset no matter what the week brings.
One of the best practices you can do throughout the day is getting outside. Spending time outdoors provides a variety of benefits, both mentally and physically.
Give your busy brain a break today!
What do these photos have in common? They are all examples of exercises that research has shown to help with anxiety and depression.
When you hear someone mention exercise as a way to reduce anxiety and depression, the most common thought is hours in the gym or running miles at a time. However, that is not the case. Thirty minutes of moderate-intensity exercise 3 days a week is enough to start seeing benefits. What makes this even better is that you can break the thirty minutes of exercise into three 10-minute segments throughout the day.
I encourage you to find a way to schedule some time for exercise this week. Find what works for you, prepping the garden, dancing, jogging, or biking, and do it.
Be proud of the steps you are taking (big or small) and the progress you are making. Every step forward counts.
If you’re ready to take the next step, call (9035056101) or email ([email protected]) to schedule your free 15 minute consultation.
As silly as it sounds, I love the line “Just Keep Swimming” from the movie Finding Nemo. There are seasons in our lives where we have to just keep swimming. We have to search ourselves to find the strength to get through the day. You’re tired both mentally and physically, but you just keep swimming. You keep showing up for whatever or whoever needs you. Maybe you keep showing up because you need YOU!
I’m here to help you learn some techniques to help you float when you feel like you’re drowning. Let’s “just keep swimming” through this season of life together.
I graduated from Dallas Baptist University in May 2021 with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. In my practicum I worked with people who were 18 or older and struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma (recent and past), adjustments, and more. It was through this experience that I found I enjoyed working with this age group and empowering them to be the best version of themselves. The reasons I chose to continue to work in these areas and with this population is because I enjoy seeing the change in the clients as they use their strengths to better their life. Anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and others affect your daily life. It’s an honor for me to help you develop coping skills so that you can live your best life.
If you are 18 or older, live in Texas, and are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or adjusting to life changes, reach out and let’s work together!

Here are a few reasons why therapy via telehealth may be a good fit for you.
Life can be stressful. It will throw things at you that you were never prepared for. The good news is that you don’t have to go through it alone. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to ask for help. If your life is overwhelming and you need someone to help you work through all the emotions and stress, reach out. It would be an honor to walk through this season of life with you.
