The Nurtured Seedling
Gather. Learn. Grow. The Nurtured Seedling was born out of our desire to foster a vibrant community.
It is a safe space - literally and figuratively - to gather, be inspired, be creative, be healthy…be nurtured.
We have LOVED teaching our Littlest Gardeners classes (3-5yr olds) here in the garden on a quarterly basis and are SO excited for the opportunity to bring the joy of gardening to our wider community of families.
So, friends through the tunnel, we are teaching a 4 week series hosted by in Lafayette starting on Oct 17. This class will be on 4 Thursdays at 4:30-5:15 (10/17, 10/24, 11/7, 11/14). If you can’t join us or live in/around Oakland, please share with your friends that are in the Lafayette/Orinda/Moraga/Walnut Creek area!

Got all your Summer camps figured out, but not sure what to do those last few days before school starts? As OUSD moms, same here!
That’s why we’re offering a one-week gardening-inspired camp August 5-9, in an expansive home garden setting right by Dimond Park.
During our week together, campers will spend their time immersed in the delights of a working garden. They will connect to plants and each-other through structured activities as well as unstructured play and free-choice time.
Mornings will consist of learning to cook from the garden and creating garden-inspired arts and crafts. We will also take little field trips down the street to Dimond Park to get those wiggles out, and one of the days do a nearby nature hike to collect treasures for one of our projects. If we’re met with some hot late-Summer days, we’ll also have opportunities for water play. A daily garden-inspired snack will either be provided or the kids will make one themselves as part of our morning activity.
Space is limited and we can’t wait to welcome your kiddos into the garden! Learn more via link in bio.

We are STOKED to be partnering with wonderful local biz for our puberty event this Saturday with .
They are very graciously gifting one of these gorgeous pouches to each participating girl. We thought they would be PERFECT to hold a mini period kit, something that’s discrete and beautiful that can be stashed in their backpacks for when they need it. Thank you so much, Yiva and Bryce!! ❤️
Here’s a little about what they do:
In 2011 wife & husband team Yiva & Bryce began printing
and sewing bags out of their tiny apartment in San Francisco’s Alamo Square neighborhood, home of the Painted Ladies.
Having since moved into the City’s Mission District, the commitment to producing locally and finding happiness through design remains.
At Lady Alamo we strive to create everyday items
that bring joy with each use. Focusing on natural materials,
versatility and of course color, we’ve created a variety of
Zipper Pouches, Backpacks and Reversible bags
that you will want to show off every chance you get.

“We mothers have a wonderfully precious and truly powerful role to play in the future self-images of our daughters. The model of our own empowerment gives our daughters permission to be powerful.” ~Melia Keeton-Digby
This event, designed for mothers and daughters (ages 7-11), is a unique opportunity to start and change the conversation around periods. You’ll have opportunities for mother-daughter connection, as well as breakouts designed for candid conversation.
Led by Konika Ray Wong, founder of , the girls will have have an engaging class to learn about the superpowers of puberty in a safe, fun, relatable, and supported environment. We will celebrate our healthy growing bodies and get an empowering introduction to the science of menstruation. We will learn about some amazing new inventions and creative strategies to prepare for our first period and beyond both physically and mentally.
Meanwhile, the mamas will have an opportunity to build community centered around creating a seasonal, nourishing recipe you’ll get to take home.
Then, we switch. The girls get to do some (age-appropriate) cooking in the garden to create a recipe that’s extra nourishing during their period, and Girl Power Science will hold a class for moms to learn strategies for supporting and empowering their daughters during this time of growth and change.
We’ll then come together for more connection and Konika’s famous Curiosity Box.
-Each mom and daughter will also have the opportunity to create a collaborative piece of art, with , a local art studio, to further build connection.
-Light bites and sips provided, as well as all cooking supplies, ingredients, and instruction.
-Each girl will get a swag bag of curated goodies to help her feel even more confident!
