12 Mice/Rat Tips to keep them from getting inside your home

Colder seasons create a migration of rodents venturing into new living areas. Homes are perfect conditions for Mice and Rats to invade because of the warmth and the food supply. The following are 12 strategies for preventing the amount of pest invasions into your home. These 12 actions you can do as a home owner or you can have a professional pest control company do many of them for you. Here they are:

1. Eliminate Bird Feeders- They love the food dropping on the ground. It will attract large amounts of rodents to your property.

2. Pick up all the fallen fruit from the fruit trees. Shake off the all the remaining fruit off the tree and discard it.

3. Get owl statues and secure them along your fenceline or back patio if you have a large field in your back yard. Rodents can see and sense the owls. I will help keep them away because owls are a predator for these rodents, especially voles.

4. Feed pets inside home at set times and put away food and water in sealed containers. Pet food has Vitamin K1 which will heal rodents after they eat the bait. Rodents will hoard pet food. They collect it and store food for a long unwelcome stay.

5. Store any other food storage items in sealed containers.

6. Seal/Plug holes with mesh, steel wool or expanding foam.
Rodents can get through small holes because of the occipital plate on the front skull (Mice size of a dime and Rat size of a quarter).

7. Eliminate bushes and ground cover around base of home.

8. Eliminate tree branches over roof to prevent climbing rodents to get into your attic.

9. Normally will take 2 weeks to 2 months to completely treat for Mice and Rats. Rats normally will take longer to treat.

10. Mice have poor sight and great audio perception. That's why they are always droppings against walls. Great place to place traps. Sticky boards and spring loaded traps work well.

11. Mice will operate only 10-25 ft from food source. Rats have a greater distance 15-50 ft. Remember, this distance can also be in every direction so crawl spaces and attics are also areas of concern.

12. When placing traps for mice and rats, keep in mind that they are very scared of new enviromnets. This is called neophobia, meaning a fear of new places/things. Put traps out for a few days unloaded for rodents out with peanut butter, chocolate sauce, dog food, string, or bacon grease (especially for Norway Rats) to get them accustom then spring the traps so they dont create a bait shyness and you will have a better chance at catching them.

All the following is what we call Integrated Pest Management. This is using multiple actions to control a specific pest without simply using poison as the first and only source of control. By doing these 12 actions you are usuing multiple forms to control the situation. Some of these actions include: Sanitation, Exclusion, Trapping, Baiting, Biological, Cultural and others.

There’s no question we love what we do. We feel warm & fuzzy knowing that we are offering a home-friendly alternative to what pest control used to be in years past. We use the best of the best in organic-based products with the longest lasting residual. In addition to using the most effective & efficient methods, we are a local family-based business. So instead of getting an operator when you call in, you talk to a real human who lives in your neighborhood, and who also has kids. We get it, bugs are gross, and we know you worry about your kids and pets. Rest assured we have your best interests at heart. If you’re still skeptical, look at what our customers are saying online. We love how outspoken they are! ;)

Here’s more of what sets us apart from other companies... we are all about giving more bang for your buck!

Each services includes a four part treatment:

1) Eave Service
We sweep your eaves to remove wasp nests and spider webs to prevent them from coming inside your attic or second stories. Our extension poles reach up to 25 feet. In addition to eave treatment we also treat fence lines, children's playsets (amazing right?!), and garage interiors.

2) Lawn Treatment
The best way to effectively keep pests from coming inside your home is to create a barrier. To do this, we granulate your lawn at least 30 feet from your home foundation. Bonus: it’s protects your lawn from those nasty grubs that eat your lawn!

3) Foundation Power-Spray
Our trucks have 50 gallon tanks that distribute 100 lbs of pressure along your entire foundation. In addition to coating your foundation with the organic based products we also treat fence lines, troubled areas in your eaves, trees, rock formations, and shrubs. When the product dries it adheres to your foundation offering a long residual of protection, and not even from rain or sprinklers can wash it off for at least 60+ days.

4) Interior Flush-Out
We service inside the home by treating all visible baseboards, corners, and door frames to prevent any pests from entering and nesting inside your home. We also spot treat troubled areas like bathrooms, bedrooms, garages, and kitchens from outside invaders.
