In 2012, Everychild Foundation was privileged to host Justice Sandra Day O’Connor as our Salon speaker. She spoke on a wide range of topics, but primarily about her iCivics program she created to provide free online civics education to kids across the nation. As this subject has been eliminated from the curricula at so many schools, she recognized early on how young voters would not be casting educated votes. Boy was she prescient! You may not have agreed with all her judicial decisions, but she was completely on the mark here. May she rest in peace.

Our Story

The Everychild Foundation is a Los Angeles 501©3 women’s organization dedicated to easing suffering of children whether due to disease, disability, abuse, neglect, or poverty. The group funds the creation or expansion of innovative and replicable projects in Los Angeles County addressing critical unmet needs of children.

The organization of over 200 members eschews costly, time-consuming fundraising events and focuses instead on results and leveraging resources. It does so by making a $1 million targeted grant to a single project selected by vote of the entire membership each year. Funds are amassed from annual member contributions. Operating costs are kept at a minimum - the organization pays no rent and no salaries.

In 2019, Everychild created the Everychild Foundation Special Recognition Grant of $100,000 to help the runner up project become a reality as well. Since its founding in July 2000, Everychild has made close to $18 million in grants, directly served countless children and inspired the creation of at least 30 spinoff groups.

Today, Everychild Foundation is also focusing on public policy and activism. The group has played an important role in the creation of the only juvenile arrest division program in the state of California, passing state legislation to stop sentencing youth to life without parole, the creation of the first countywide directory of services for homeless youth, persuasion of County officials to create a new detention camp based upon a restorative justice model and the passage of state and national legislation allowing foster youth to remain in care until age 21.
