Meet the Artist

Aaron “Double A” Mickens is a creator and a master at ‘attention-to-detail.” He has a keen sense of artistic innovation, excels in character development, and has a special eye for action shots that tell a story all by themselves. Aaron is resourceful, endearing, and his artistry comes out of a rare fusion of a logical pragmatic mind and open creative expression. When he grabs a pen, marker, blue lead pencil, or paintbrush, it becomes his portal to the unlimited world of his imagination. When he puts pen to paper, that world manifests for all on earth to experience and explore.

Aaron began drawing as a toddler, and every year he dove in deeper to the pool of visual art. He became most comfortable with sketching and creating characters as an adolescent, working mainly with pencils and pens. Then, color came into the picture in high school.
He attended Arts Academy in the Woods in Fraser, MI (formerly in Warren, MI) from 2005-2006, and it was during that senior year when he started experimenting with oil pastels, acrylic paints, shadowing, the use of light, as well as other techniques and skills. He continued pursuing art in college at The Art Institute in Schaumburg, IL and The International Academy of Design in Michigan. As a college student, he discovered his niche for comic art and pop art. He learned quite a bit about animation and digital art during this time. His talent is exceptional, and his desires for youth outreach, teaching, and ministry provide a marvelous way for it to be shared.

“Double A” doesn’t create for himself. He creates out of himself for others’ pleasure, excitement, and inspiration. Aaron utilizes his power to empower, shares his creations to evoke creativity, and uses his gift to be opened by every child at heart.
