What is better than a white blonde?

Even though Dimensional lived in blondes are super popular right now one thing that always remains popular and I really believe it will never go out of style is that white blonde!

Babylights back to back are the best way to achieve such a close to solid look, while still having enough dimension to make it pop and grow out seamlessly. Babylights can be very hard and tedious but, in my opinion so worth it! ❤️

My girl .connolly is back for her 2nd appointment of the year. She comes every 5-6 months and today we ended up doing a full tightly packed babylight/baby lowlight.

We wanted to add some dimension through out for the Winter months and also to allow some pop with her blonde.

We did overlap her ends and most of the time we do very carefully just because she is naturally a level 6 red head and, her hair gets far more brassier with more orange undertones since she is a natural red head!

We also weaved and teased some of her drop outs and, I went in and root shadowed her one level darker than her natural hair color because red heads DO NOT take Demi permanent color and sometimes even permanent color is hard.

Her and I actually shot an in depth YouTube tutorial on this topic almost a year ago so go check it out to see the full break down on what I am talking about.

For my colorist out there I did shades eq 5n 5na equal parts on her root shadow formula and, we know how ashy the NA series in shades eq can be. I usually use a quarter of the formula worth or less but, since her red hair doesn’t take demi color well I did equal parts to cool it down like always and, it worked!

For her global toner formula I used shades eq 10GI 9NW 9G 9M.

Her lowlight we used was shades eq 6G with 10 volume and lightener was my holy grail blonde me with 20 volume and . I did use 30 on her drop outs however since it was applied at the end while she was processing!

So my long time loyal client came for her full babylight today and we brightened her up and, knocked through a lot of dark hair that was underneath since it’s been a little while since we did a full head.

We did a tightly packed babylight back to back to back with very small minimal subsections to get the most lift and brightest result while also keeping her hair as healthy as possible.

We did overlap the ends and, tipped all the ends out with 20 volume as well because I know her hair and, know how she takes care of her hair.

She comes every 4 months and, also has very stubborn level 5 hair that doesn’t like to lift past a level 8 so I did let her sit for 70 minutes during processing.
This is okay to do as long as you know your clients hair, they are okay with it, and you watch it close as well as use a lower developer. We used my holy grail lightener Blonde me with 20 volume and and for my fellow stylist out there we did a slight root tap using shades eq 5n 6na and her all over formula for toning was 9V 9P 9NB!

This wasn’t my normal baby lights we did a regular highlight packed tightly to allow a little bit more dimension to show through which she loves because it always allows the blonde to pop just that little bit more!

To all my white blondes who can’t see themselves without that level 10 white but, want to change things up a little bit for Fall and Winter like most of us, I have the best solution for you!!

This will allow you to maintain your level 10 but, add something different and make you feel fresh and new!!!

It’s called adding a lowlight and, a nice slight root tap, or shadow!

My girl and I decided it was time for some Fall change but, nothing that would get rid of that beautiful white blonde she’s worked so hard to maintain.

So what did I do? We added a level 6 lowlight. Level 6 can be scary for someone who is a natural level 8 blonde like Allison.

However adding 2 levels darker will give her a little depth but, I still did very fine, packed back to back babylights and baby low lights. This way it would still be very blended and, not come off to dark and chunky.

We used shades eq which we all know fades out gorgeously and never is hard to lift through if we ever needed too!

Once all that was done we slightly shadowed her using a level 6 as well cause the root area should always be darker or at least the same color as lowlights never lighter at the root, that is not natural and will cause the hair to appear to have hot roots.

Once we rinsed the slight shadow out we finished it up by toning her with an extremely ashy formula which was also away from her normal and I used shades eq 10vv and 10p.

It’s so amazing what some extensions and a nice beautiful color can do to someone’s self confidence.

I was never one who liked extensions nor wanted to do them. My primary focus was blonding and color corrections but, once I noticed how extensions can give a little extra something I was in from that very moment on!

My girl Lindsay loves dimension so 2 weeks ago we added some lowlights when we did her full highlight and, now with the help of the extensions and mixing 2 different colors (one blonde and, one blonde with darker blonde lowlights) it gives her that pop of color she loves.

One thing I will say is when it comes to extensions less can be more. Too many times people add so much hair it looks fake. Remember to make sure you have enough but, not an over the top crazy amount.

*Pro Tip* make sure you have enough hair to make it blend but, not too much hair to make it look totally unnatural!

What’s the key trick in keeping your blonde bright and, preventing brass?

A lot of factors play a role but, a few that come to mind are, water filters!!

Make sure if you are noticing yellowing of your hair quicker than it should be you look into the number one reason and.. that is usually the water in your home. There can be different kinds of water, soft water, hard water, etc but they can cause tons of yellowing. They have many different filters ranging in different prices but, this is something you totally want to invest in. You’ll thank me later.

Heat being too high on your heat tools without using a professional heat protectant can also cause yellowing. It can literally strip your toner from your hair very quickly and easily.

Hot water tends to do the same since it opens up the hair cuticle and wipes everything out. You can prevent that by simply rinsing your shampoo and conditioner out with cool to cold water. I know this can be hard in the shower but, if you have to wash your hair in the sink to do this then it’s very important to do so. It will make all the difference since the cool-cold water will seal the cuticle and lock the healthy, professional shampoo and conditioner into the hair.

I know these tips aren’t really that hard to execute and, when you do this you keep the hair extremely healthy and light and, bright. Especially if you are a white blonde these steps are crucial for the simple fact that white hair can turn very quickly!

When you follow these rules and prevent the hair from yellowing less damage will occur because you won’t have to overlap the ends with lightener to kick out the brass like my client

We literally just did maintenance by foiling the root and feathering down through the mids, leaving the ends completely out, untouched and, just refreshing the toner at the bowl at the end.

** WHY SO MANY FOILS?? **

In my experience I like packing in a lot of foils for my blondes who like there blondes to grow out of their heads like it’s their own and, babylights are the best for this. The least chunky the better!

My bestie has gone 4 months and can still to even longer.

Because of all the foils and placement she only came in for an stand alone treatment and a cut. No toner or foils.

My goal when going into a blonding session is to make sure my client can go as long as they want in between sessions before feeling like they NEED their hair done.

I never want my clients to look at their hair and say “OMG I NEEEED my hair done.” I like them to look at their hair and say “ wow it still looks amazing and, blended! Maybe it’s time!”

*It’s Amazing What A Partial Foil Can Do!!*

Whether my client wants a dimensional partial highlight, a dimensional partial babylight, a tightly packed babylight or, even a partial Teasy light, a partial foil goes a very long way!

My client touches up her grey coverage every 4-6 weeks but, every third session we do a partial just to kick through any old permanent to prevent banding, as well as bringing up her highlights to blend the grey a little better.

It’s so amazing to me how a full babylight sprinkled with a few lowlights through out, a decent health trim and, 2 brand new rows of beaded weft hair extensions can be such a GAME CHANGER!

My bestie is back for her refresh which we do every 8 weeks usually but, this time we went 3 months and, I have to admit it grew out beautifully! We could’ve did just a toner and, left it alone but, it was time to bring back the length and, the whiteness for the remainder of Summer!

** Curly Haired Women Can Have Gorgeous, Healthy, Light Blonde Hair Aswell!**

One thing is we have to not get it twisted and stop thinking coarse hair needs stronger developer and, heat compared to fine, thin, straight hair when the truth or the matter is it’s the total opposite.

Curly hair will dry off and, melt off WAYYY QUICKER than a fine haired straight blonde!

You have to remember to take it easier and, really baby curly hair because it’s way more porous!

My girl Elyse’s first session today and, we did a half babylight with a couple of teased and weaved drop outs to brighten her a little for Summer!

** Blonde Maintenance Is So IMPORTANT!! **

I am only with your hair a few times a year a few hours each time, give or take.

However what is extremely crucial is at home care.

Us colorist and stylist don’t harp on you guys using good product and, baby your hair for no reason!

Getting your hair done professionally is just a very small part of truly taking your hair to that next level especially when blonding!

Trust me $20-$30 shampoos are not that expensive when it comes to your looking cotton candy like and, by the time you wait and, finally realize you already are behind and, have to wait a long time to get your hair back to perfection!
