🌟 Meet Jason Mills, our expert Welding Instructor at Lively Technical College! 🌟 Jason brings creativity and critical thinking to the classroom by framing problems in ways that encourage students to think outside the box. He ensures learning is applicable to the future success of the students with practical examples and challenges. Jason says, "I try to make learning relevant to the real world by using problems students will actually encounter in their careers.”

Jason makes learning a trade engaging and fun by connecting it to students' interests and goals. He goes the extra mile every time to keep the classroom lively and exciting. "I make learning fun and interactive by using games, simulations, and other activities," Jason shares. At Lively Technical College, our programs are designed to prepare students for success in the trades. With experienced instructors, state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities for real-world experience through internships and apprenticeships, students are well-equipped for their future careers.

Jason recalls a memorable experience with a student who was struggling and on the verge of giving up. With Jason's encouragement, the student persevered, passed the class, and is now a successful electrician. Jason's dedication to his students' success is truly inspiring. And here’s a fun fact: Jason is a certified scuba diver! 🌊

Big things happening at Lee County Schools CTAE! Partnerships with local education programs are vital to our future and it brings us joy to see other businesses we work with, like CE Family, partnering with programs like these.

The Jessi Combs Foundation 2024 Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. The program issues scholarships to women pursuing careers in the skilled trades, and it has already issued over $180,000 in scholarships to 35 deserving women over the past four years.

We touched base with Charles Schwaner, the Welding Technology/ SkillsUSA Georgia advisor at Mitchell County High School and are thrilled to highlight the remarkable strides made by the Southwest Georgia College & Career Academy welding program, a beacon of innovation and skill in technical education.

“With the support of the GA Connect grant, the program has seen substantial enhancements including the addition of 15 new welders and 14 state-of-the-art welding booths. The facility has also been upgraded with a range of new machinery such as fans, band saws, cutting equipment, a bender, and a drill press, elevating the learning environment for our students.

This year, the SOWEGA CCA welding team embraced the challenge of competitive events, showcasing their talents through diverse projects like constructing a dog kennel, designing fire pits, and even crafting a functional smoker. Their dedication and craftsmanship will be celebrated at a special banquet on May 10th, honoring our top-performing welders. This event will be made even more special with the support of Jones Industrial Welding Supply, which will provide prizes for our outstanding seniors. Additional backing from local businesses including Advanced AUTO Parts, Twitty’s Feed and Seed, NAPA, and Lincoln Electric has made it possible to award the Accelerated Career Spotlight prize.

We take immense pride in the achievements of these students and are grateful for the community and industry support that continues to fuel their success.”

Stopped by Lee County Schools CTAE at Lee County High School today to check out what they’ve been up to and donate some consumables that their welding teacher, Daniel Nelms Jr. said they could use. They’re loving their new Hypertherm plasma section in the shop. These kids are doing big things! We will share more about the program during next weeks Education Spotlights!
