Not something you see every morning
Today was an extremely difficult day...lots of emotions...grief...love...anger. Yet, how wonderful is it to see something like this afterwards?! To cling to promises...to have hope!!!
A little reminder to slow down and enjoy life. It is often busy this time of year...to lose sight of what is important. Merry Christmas ๐๐๐ everyone!
It's a hard life BUT somebody's gotta do it ๐ญ
It's been a little cooler in the morning. I'm not sure that fall is here to stay yet....but it won't be too much longer. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get a video of the deer this morning. They seemed to be more curious today and were really watching me. They stayed fairly close (30-40ft) instead of running away
This is my view on my early morning walk that I basically will do ๐ง๏ธ or โ๏ธ. Why? It helps with managing stress and recovery after hard workouts. Another benefit for summertime..it helps with fat loss. I mean who doesn't want to look good on the โฑ๏ธ๐๏ธ
Just enjoying a lazy afternoon
The aftermath of the high carb day๐คซ๐
My bodyweight is up 4.2 pounds from yesterday morning. Did I gain 4.2 pounds of muscle in a day? I wish! You can't build muscle that quickly. Was it 4.2 pounds of fat? Nope...you can't add fat that quickly either.
It's a combination of glycogen being reloaded into muscles, fluid and increased amount/weight of food eaten yesterday. It's nothing to worry about in this case and if everything goes well this week, I'll be even leaner next Saturday in time for the next High Carb Day.
First meal of my High Carb day! My other meals will consist of chicken or steak with rice. I'll probably have some treat or something else if I'm craving it tonight.
I won't lie...I added more whip cream to my French Toast...A LOT MORE ๐คซ๐
Today is my Dad's birthday ๐ Unfortunately, he passed away several years ago ๐ and he is missed. I miss being able to talk to him and tease him about his bald spot
It's good to think back and reminisce. But it's hard too. There's more laughter than tears now.
I've just felt a little off all day...but that's normal with grief. We don't get over losing someone we love BUT things do get easier over time. I know I'm not going to be at ๐ฏ% on days (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries) and that's ok. I can be kind to myself and I hope you can be kind to yourself when you are dealing with grief or any other difficulty.
I love training, learning and experimenting ๐
The first two pics are my lab ๐งช๐งซ๐ฅฝโ๏ธ
The last pic is part of the education ๐๐ I just finished Fundamentals and have started Programming and Organization. I read Special Strength years ago, but need a refresher (same for Zatsiorky's Science and Practice of Strength Training).
Lots of great information that most people are not aware of and therefore, are training incorrectly for strength, endurance and obtaining Sport Mastery.
Stay tuned for more!!!๐ค๐
Had some really cool natural lighting this morning with the sunrise ๐
Snow or remnants of a severe thunderstorm?
Here's a pic of the bite. I'm assuming it was a horse fly but everything happened so fast that I'm not sure. However, I was sure I didn't want to go back to find out ๐๐
Here's a link to the Nugget Climbing Podcast where Steven and I discussed pain and other things. Hope you enjoy!

Getting to watch the sunrise ๐ this morning
New Beastmaker holds for the wall๐ช๐
Sunset at the marsh!
Guess what I saw this morning?
3 deer ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ in the front yard. Sorry for the poor picture quality but I was trying not to scare them off
A little more on what Functional Medicine is not...
It is not about eliminating more and more foods that you enjoy. AND it is definitely not about making you scared๐ค๐นof food!๐
โโ๏ธ๐
โโ๏ธOr that person at a party, you know what I'm talking about...no one wants to be that person!!!
Food is obviously something we need but it is possible for our body not to like certain foods in certain amounts at certain times. My goal with all of my clients is to help them find the foods that work best for them and to have as much diversity as possible

Week One Update....
What were the results of the first week? Did it work?๐ฌ๐คญ
Watch to find out and you may just learn something๐
Is Functional Medicine for everyone?๐ค
No, it's not for everyone.๐ฎIf you are looking for a quick fix, it's not for you. If you want to be reliant on someone else for your health, it's not for you. ๐
๐
โโ๏ธ
BUT if you have been struggling, feeling overwhelmed and confused, it is for you!๐If you want to be heard, it is for you!๐If you want to empower yourself and change your life, it is for you!๐
There is hope...there is always hope!!!
And the last one...I'll post back next week with more information about what I am doing and the results of week 1๐คจ๐
Hope everyone has a wonderful year!

Here's a little bit of my story and what got me into Functional Medicine. It changed my life and my wife's!๐
Merry Christmas!๐โ๐ฆ
One of the best things, maybe the best thing, in life is being with those we love. There's no one that I love more than my wife๐โค๏ธ
It's ironic that we often take people and our time together for granted. The holidays help to remind us of what is important. But they can also be especially hard when we have lost someone we love.
I know of a number of people who have lost someone dear to them in the past few days to months...chances are you do too. Let's think about them during this season (and the rest of the year) and do something for them to let them know that they are not alone. And let's remember to show the ones we love just that...that we love them!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!
Hey guys...Here's a new article that you might like, especially if you enjoy exercising or climbing!๐ชโ๐งโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ
The Best Way To "Fuel" Your Climbing and Your Workouts Climbers and, maybe more specifically, boulderers are notorious for using candy (gummy bears, etc.) and cookies to fuel their climbing and send attempts. But is there a better way? Lessons From Bodybuilding You are probably thinking: "What? Are you crazy!?! Have you seen a bodybuilder try to climb?....
Hi guys! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the holidays.
I have some ideas for topics related to health, etc. that I would like to share. I plan to talk about lab work, thryoid, trauma, etc. Are there questions you have regarding these topics? Any other topics you have questions about?๐ค Just let me know and I will get to work on it.
Have a great day!๐ฑ๐ป
About Healthy Design Functional Medicine
Iโm a husband, father of three children, Physical Therapist with 15+ years of experience and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. I have witnessed the effects that chronic pain, chronic gut issues, chronic stress, etc. has had on my patients and on my loved ones, especially my wife. I have also seen how the conventional medical route is unable to adequately address these problems and provide answers. I have seen the disappointment and sense of helplessness that this can cause. I am sure that you have experienced this too.
However, I always felt there was hopeโฆa different way to address these problems. After all, I learned that the key to treating patients in Physical Therapy is to get to the root cause of the problem. Then the symptoms will take care of themselves. This is the same premise in Functional Medicine. I have seen the life transforming effect this can have on quality of life firsthand. My wife was having issues with chronic pain, fatigue, chronic stomach upset, etc. It was recommended that she have multiple MRIs but they did not show anything. She also tried a few different medications. Again, no change. Gradually we began to address her stomach issues and how each of her body systems functioned together as a whole. Only then, did she begin to notice a difference and now she is like her old self. This systematic approach has also improved the quality of life for people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, hormonal issues, etc.
During my career, I have treated athletes looking to return to sport, patients that are trying to recover from neurological insults like a stroke, patients that are attempting to return to their prior level of function following surgery and many other conditions. My unique certifications include Functional Movement Techniques, IASTM Blades and Functional Movement Screen certified. I have also focused heavily on neurodynamics and the treatment of chronic pain. This led to an interest in staying abreast of new research regarding the role of the Immune System and Central Nervous System in pain. It also pointed out the important role that the Autonomic Nervous System and chronic systemic inflammation play in chronic illness.
