Some souls arrived from a higher abode, having completed their “tikkun” (correction) in previous lifetimes. Their existence here is purely for our sake. They served as lamp lighters for the Divine, to remind us that simple faith and pure goodness exist even amidst a world of chaos and cruelty.
Other souls were cast into the furnace of life from birth and early childhood. From abject poverty, dysfunctional society & families, totalitarian regimes, crimes against humanity, and other unspeakable atrocities, their very existence is meticulously crafted, and tested to determine if light can still emanate from unholy darkness. Such souls are resilient, often rebellious by nature, and are allergic to authority. They are armed with unique attributes (faculties) that at times may be deemed unsophisticated and unrefined. But their purpose is clear — that true faith, unlike simple faith, isn’t inherited. It is continually earned through “the sweat of our brows”. True faith is forged in the crucible of adversity where every ounce of one’s resolve is tried and where a soul is often stripped of everything…except for his or her unbroken connection to the One Who Created him. True faith allows one to stand alone with the Master of the Universe, for the Holy One, Blessed is He truly delights in those who have had every reason to deny, be angry, and God forbid, even go against Him, but yet choose to “return” (Teshuva) to His Loving Arms time and time again. For no greater tests exist in this corporeal world than to accept and to acknowledge that “only good comes from Him”…Semper Fidelis

Stopped by a local Dunken to grab some coffee and a special needs employee just came off his shift. He was so thrilled to be able to work and asked politely “how are you today sir?” After my reply, he proceeded to tell me that “it’s been a hard week but I’m happy because I got to work 42 hours…think I’m gonna get overtime pay!”
I offered to buy him coffee but he declined, so I shook his hand and thank him for being gainfully employed. I wish more Americans were as grateful and as willing to work. We wouldn’t be in such a mess…
