The National Park Service is seeking applicants for paid winter internships in fire ecology! Interns can work in Alaska or remotely, and positions run from January to April 2024. These are great opportunities to develop skills in remote sensing, data management, and fire science!

Using satellite and aerial imagery from 1986 to 2022, a team at observed landcover change in the park over the last 35 years. Sensors on satellites measure rays of sunlight as they bounce off of Earth, then different patterns in the reflection of those wavelengths characterize the area being observed. The spring 2023 Coronado Ecological Conservation team tracked and modeled invasive spread in the park using sensors from , , , and . Coronado National Memorial aims to use these findings to inform its management practices, including restoration and mitigation.
