He pursued his graduate studies and obtained a Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Ph. D. in Medical Microbiology. Among his discoveries, he found that the use of honey sugars successfully detached infectious bacteria from bladder tissue, in-vitro.

The landmark incident in Dr. Mousa’s path to rediscovering the remedial power of the beehives happened one night after he and his five-year-old son had taken an evening stroll. When his son went to bed that night, Dr. Mousa and his wife noticed that their son had developed a severe inflammation that turned his entire body scarlet red within a period of 30 minutes. The reaction began on his neck and could be seen spreading over the whole body with about a 1-2 mm elevation on the skin.

In Dr. Mousa’s words, “That night was a huge challenge. My wife wanted to take him to the emergency room. I knew if we took him there, he would be given steroid injections at high doses to alleviate his condition. I also knew that he might have to use steroids for the rest of his life once he became dependent on them. Fortunately, I had some extracts of the beehives products (from honey, propolis, pollen grains, and royal jelly) that I was using myself for their remedial activities. I immediately removed all his clothes and coated his entire body with a thick layer of my homemade preparation. In a short time, his skin turned from a congested red color to rose-red, and the inflammation visibly receded in the opposite way it had progressed. His whole body was absolutely normal within a matter of an hour.”
