The Foundation was incorporated on December 14, 1972 and it was originally called The Lions Sight Foundation of New Jersey (LSF). In May 1988, the name was changed to the Lions Eye Research Foundation of New Jersey (LERF). The Lions Eye Research Foundation of NJ is entirely separate from the Eye Institute of NJ, the Eye Research Center, the Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey, and Rutgers, New Jersey Med

Another somewhat busy weekend. Spent Friday at the NJ Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in west Trenton processing some 3,000+ eyeglasses with PCS Marion Goldberg and Richard Lucy. A lot more volunteers are needed to join this project to get these used glasses through cleaning and lens reading before they are shipped around the world.
On Saturday I had the privilege of opening the Lions Eye Research Foundation of NJ Soctors Speak forum at Rutgers Medical School in Newark NJ. This annual seminar is hosted by Dr. Marcie Zarbin, MD PhD Chair of the Institute of Visual Science (Ophthalmology Department) at Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School. Other presenters were Dr. Roger Turbin, MD a Neuro Ophthalmologist and Dr. Mohammad Dastjerti a cornea surgeon. All three of these doctors are professors at NJ Medical School.
