Meet our outgoing, funny and truly awesome supervisor, PJ! He works the build station, which means if you’ve ever had one of our delicious burgers (PJ’s favorite) or sandwiches, you have him to thank.
Originally from Florida, PJ’s history with the restaurant business dates back years ago. He got his start working at The Waffle House, but bounced around as a cook throughout different restaurants, learning more about the restaurant industry, eventually moving to Kentucky in 2007.
PJ’s journey with DV8 began in April 2023 after he heard about us through his time staying with the Shepherd’s House. After a history of incarceration, PJ says this was the first time he was determined to work toward a sober lifestyle.
“I was tired of going in and out of institutions,” PJ explained. “I had a distorted view of the world, and I just had to know that there was better. I was just sick of going through the same revolving door over and over and over again. I knew nothing was going to change unless I changed.”
So, he decided to take the dive and apply for a job at DV8. At first, PJ said he approached DV8 as a means to an end. Simply put, PJ says “it was just a job” to start out.
“I honestly went into DV8 Kitchen and was like, ‘Okay, I need to have a job. I need to pay my rent. I need to, you know, be able to provide for myself,” PJ elaborated. “But since I’ve been at DV8, man, it has been one of the best jobs that I’ve ever had as far as the atmosphere, the people that I work with, and I love the mission. Man, I absolutely love the fact that it’s more than just a job. I actually work for people who care about me and who care about my future.”

We are jumping for joy!!!!
Today, Attorney General Russell Coleman came to DV8 to announce 50+ organizations across Kentucky are splitting more than $12 million this month for opioid prevention, treatment and enforcement efforts from the Attorney General’s Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission.
$151,730 is going to DV8 to establish an employee success mentorship program, led by our very own Mindy Street! We are so grateful for this opportunity to continue our mission of giving second chance employment opportunities to people in early stages of recovery, while teaching valuable life skills and providing further education to help employees reach their full potential!
We could not be more grateful!!! https://www.kentucky.gov/Pages/Activity-stream.aspx?n=AttorneyGeneral&prId=1585&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR34jqihZEaqhDdVJ6RhDf0v7nDjQSzWKxlMuEYVfpZahWPlyUec2uS5pIs_aem_ZmFrZWR1bW15MTZieXRlcw

Our Mission
DV8 Kitchen was developed and operates as a second chance employment opportunity for people who are trying to redirect their lives. People in the early stages of substance abuse recovery often find it difficult to find employers willing to take a chance on them.
We believe providing employment at DV8 Kitchen can lead to a lifetime ability to gain and maintain employment and deviate from their past lifestyle.
