Last year was the first year of our mentorship program. We took a break this first semester as we have had a lot of changes in our high school programming by adding a new early college program and we have had some changes in personnel in our high school counseling department. With that being said, we are ready to get this program back up and running and it will be better than ever. We are seeking 10 individuals who are looking to make a difference in the life of a student. If you are interested please contact Jenny Zahm [email protected]
About the Program:
The goal of the Whiteland Scholars Program is to support Whiteland Community High School students to and through college. By providing meaningful resources to first-generation students, Whiteland Scholars bridges the achievement gap and creates a college-bound culture where every first-generation student with the desire and ability will also have the resources and skills necessary to succeed in college. The role of the mentors is to help the students navigate high school and prepare for the next phase of their academic career. The time commitment of the mentors would be approximately 1 to 1.5 hours per month for the meetings/organized events.
Whiteland Scholar Mentors must:
Be a graduate of a four-year college or university
Submit an application
Have returned police checks showing no criminal record
Provide a four-year commitment to the program, with at least one scholar contact per month
Sign an agreement form verifying that they understand policies and procedures and what is expected of volunteers
