Do you pressure can? Now is the time to visit your local Extension office to have your dial gauges tested for accuracy!
Pressure canners are required for canning low acid foods such as meat, poultry and plain vegetables. Always read the canner manuals for use and care. There will be an entomology workshop hosted by the Ellis County 4-H Summer Engagement interns to learn how to collect, pin, and identify insects! It will also cover simple life stages, insects in our area, and their ecological role. It will be from 10 am to 12 pm, on June 27th in the back room of the Extension Office in Hays. All youth are welcome to attend!

All women need to know the risk factors for developing high blood pressure during pregnancy - and that you can also have no risk factors, but still may develop it. Talk to your doctor and attend regular appointments which will check for signs of that may not have obvious symptoms, like protein in your urine.
Ellis County FCW Agent, Monique Korner will be hosting a Muffin Class to help everyone get ready for the King Arthur category at the Ellis County Fair. Join us at the First United Methodist Church kitchen on June 10, 2024 from 2-4pm.

Postpartum preeclampsia can happen up to six weeks postpartum. It's important that women pay attention to specific postpartum symptoms, including severe headache, vision changes, swelling of the hands and face, and especially difficulty breathing. Know the symptoms of : severe headache, swelling in the hands and face, visual issues, nausea and vomiting, stomach or abdomen pain, sudden weight gain, and/or shortness of breath. Preeclampsia can occur in any pregnancy, so all moms need to know.
Our 4 4-H summer engagement grant interns are at training this week to learn about the curriculum they can teach this summer to youth. This grant is a partnership with Kansas Department of Education and Kansas 4-H to provide summer programming. Watch our page for events coming soon!!

The Cottonwood District will host a Dining with Diabetes program at the Hays Recreation Commission
The class will begin on June 6th for a four-week series from 4-6 pm. The program is designed for people with diabetes, their family members, and caregivers.
