The 15th annual Door Prize For Portraiture is a wrap. We had 133 people come through the Artspace in ten days and it was a great show. THANKYOU to all who visited us and especially thanks to the great artists we are blessed to know.

As I expected Patty Ray won Best of Show Door Prize For Portraiture with her piece THE CURATOR which is a terrific representation of Helen DelGuidice.two Honorable Mentions include Marty Gerber’s graphite piece and Jen Aldrich b/w photo Sceabble Mama. We thank MargaretLockwood our juror for this year who had her work cut out for her to select the winners from 29 super works.

This what this event aspires to. Connections. I’ve had a great time meeting old friends and new ones with “oh wow” moments when each entry comes in to hang with others for ten days. Thanks to all the artists for such an experience.

While I was getting ready for the Door Prize for Portraiture event I was wrapping up an ekphrasis poetry event with Madison poet laureate Wendy Vardaman. We had a nice group of followers on June 13 at Write On. This was my first efforts with ekphrasis and it yielded three new mixed media pieces, based on Wendy’s enthralling poems. I am inspired by her work and hope to continue this connection in the future.

Spring Open house May 25-26

Chez Cheryl Artspace is hosting an open house studio visit May 25-26, 11-4 each day. A percentage of any sales will be donated to Open Door Bird Sanctuary.
Come for the views and the spring aromas, have a chat with Cheryl and pick up some original art for your collection.

I had a wonderful opportunity to work in the open studio at Pen Art last week and devoted most of that time to gouache abstract views of the large studio space. Here are a few examples.

Time to work in new directions. Have sent several paintings to ne home and I hope I don’t regret it. I miss them at times. My pop up sale earlier in October was a successful experiment and I was able to donate just over $200 to the Sam Watson Benefit Fund at Nicolet Bank. Meanwhile here is my new direction for a new season.

Recent attempts with oil sticks. Both abstract and impressionost

Took the engraving class at peninsula School of Art an eek ago with Don Krompos . We printed on acetate and used various dry point tools to create the image. It’s all in the inking.

Newbies, several are experiments with gouache and oil stick and one assemblage done on studio play date at a friends place. The painterly pieces were made during open studio a few days at Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek. I am now back at the farm house studio space and o day I started the abstract piece with oil stick on top of a gouache surface.

An earlier project of using clipped images to practice handling paint and as a springboard for altered versions

Clipped a pic from a plein aire magazine years ago and it inspired me to try a nocturnal scene but my drawing skills are challenging me today the front horse facing left is my most recent attempt but it’s not finished yet. Good practice on a frigid day in my sunny studio. Wish I knew who did the piece I clipped

The BIG Little juried show at Peninsula School of art in Fish Creek closes January 28. I have two pieces in this juried show both of which have sold.

Getting ready for the Swinging Soirée at the dome house in two weeks and later a group pop up show at chez Cheryl Artspace. October is busy busy. I have my head gear ready for a swell night of fundraising for the Miller Art Museum Oct 15th. Do think the hat is dark and mysterious.
