The Amarillo Area Public Health District Environmental Health Department is considering implementing a mandatory inspection for On-Site Septic System when properties change ownership.

The proposed fee for these inspections is $300 for residential properties and $350 for commercial properties. Alternatively, if the program is not funded through these fees, it would need to be supported through property taxes, impacting all city and county residents. This means that city residents would subsidize the program for rural areas, potentially increasing property taxes.
