Weathering the falcons, enjoying a glass of wine and realizing that is only 25miles away. See you tomorrow!

Meet Indigo or Indy if three syllables is too much. This little fella is going to be a fierce flyer. Fourth free flight today and his wing load is impressive. Not just a pretty face. This Saker/Peregrine tiercel will be a great addition to the abatement team.

Not much about flying birds on contract in Minnesota was enjoyable. It was -15° at times. Some days had 40 mph winds with sustained 30 mph. It snowed on Easter and I see they are still experiencing things like golf ball size hail. However, take the weather out of the equation and I flew some great falcons on some awesome farm fields. It’s nice to be moved on to warmer weather. The bio suits were a pain too but most days having another layer was a bonus.

Wrapped up the New Jersey small game season this year with some successful hunts. The team made progress all around and I learned a ton.
I have decided to let this red-tailed hawk go back into the wild. One more cross country trip for some jackrabbits and she will be free again. It will be a bittersweet moment.

We had a great time at the New Jersey Falconry Clubs 2022 Winter Field Meet. With the exception of the 50 mph gusts on Saturday, the weather was great. As always, I wish I could have hunted with more people but we got to run a bunch of dogs together. I hope you enjoy watching some of the flights and antics. This was my most enjoyable NJFC meet to date. A special thanks to Jessica for her great camera work in capturing the flights. To Paul and Phil for the great Goshawk flights and for the opportunity to run the dogs together. Kilchii had a great dog family reunion with his sister, mother and grandfather. Good times. Much thanks to all the officers and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this a great meet.

Tryphon, Respicius, and Nympha - Wikipedia 14/02/2022

Today is Saint Tryphon day
A patron saint of falconers in the orthodox church.
A popular Moscow legend says that once the falconer of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, named Tryphon Patrikeev, during a hunt in the village of Naprudnoe lost the beloved royal Gyrfalcon, which caused the sovereign's wrath. The falconer was ordered to find the falcon in 3 days, otherwise, he had to pay for it with his head. Falconer, having spent 3 days and completely tired, prayed fervently to his heavenly patron, the martyr Tryphon, and then fell asleep on the banks of the Great Pond. In the dream, Tryphon appeared to the falconer with a falcon on his arm. When he woke up, the falconer saw a falcon not far from himself, and returning him to the sovereign, was saved, and in the very place where Tryphon appeared, he set up a church of St Tryyphon.
Happy St Tryphon day! Given today is also Saint Valentine Day and Saint Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers we truly have a day made to celebrate the birds and the bees.

Tryphon, Respicius, and Nympha - Wikipedia Saint Tryphon of Campsada (Greek: Τρύφων; also spelled Trypho, Trifon, Triphon) was a 3rd-century Christian saint. He is venerated by the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches as a great martyr and holy unmercenary.

Keep your eyes open and to the sky. We still have a visitor from Asia among us.

A lost eagle from Asia has been traveling around North America for more than a year The Steller's sea eagle — native to China, Japan, the Koreas and eastern Russia — was spotted along the Taunton River in Massachusetts on Monday. It was first seen in Alaska in the summer of 2020.
