This is the job we posted about a few weeks ago and here it is completed. We installed up lights, path lights, tiki torch lights, post lights and step lights to create the look the homeowner wanted. With over a hundred Bluetooth lights that can all be controlled from your smart phone, they have the capability to dim or brighten the lights, change to over a hundred different colors or even create scenes. Last days of the voltmeter. Checking for continuity! Learn how to see if a wire is good. Bonus you can use this technique on halogen lamps as well, but it doesn’t always work with LED.

How do you know if you have too many lights on a run? Amperage. The maximum amps (using the 80% rule) on 12/2 is 15A and on 16/2, like our wire leads it’s 9A. Knowing how to check this will keep you from tripping breakers and melting wires. Remember, one side only!!

Pro tip!!! I would bet 90% of contractors don’t know this. A single sided break may still give you a voltage reading. This tip can save you a lot of time trying to diagnose a lighting system. Take a look at the video to see a wire that’s cut on one side produce 12 volts on a meter.
