From our awesome certifying body, APPA
Placenta care for potential encapsulation.
Whether you are birthing at home, hospital or birth center, be sure to have a couple larger sized ziplocked bags handy.
Double bag your placenta to ensure it is securely sealed. Then place on ice in a cooler if you are at a hospital or birth center. If you are home you can pop it into the fridge.
If you haven't considered keeping your placenta until now, that's ok. Have a ziplock handy just in case. You might change your mind after a day or so, this way you'll be able to make use of it.
