Nice turnout for the Senior Dems meeting at HQ yesterday.

Featured guest, Judge Lora Baker, was in the middle of court proceedings and we appreciated the time she made to visit. Great gal - vote for her. She is unaffiliated because she rightfully believes that a judge should be non-partisan.

Bob Hartsell, heart of the team that's been putting signs all over town, and involved with canvassing along with Bruce Sargent, would like to hear from you if you'd like to be involved with either effort: Bob's email: [email protected].

At today's Senior Democrats' meeting we learned how well-qualified Caleb Rudow is to unseat his opponent for the NC Senate Seat 48, currently held by Chuck Edwards.

As a member of the NC House and Peace Corps, he has learned to use his desire to serve, learned at home, to help and organize.
Please read this to learn more about him: https://www.rudowforcongress.com/meet-caleb

Please join me in contributing to his campaign, and if the spirit moves, volunteer to canvass for him - an act that he believes secures the most votes.

How would you feel about having a few minutes of each meeting devoted to fitness? Perhaps some balance exercises? Stretching?

Let's face it. We old folk are too sedentary. You know the old adage: "Use it or lose it".

I've been watching LOTS of senior fitness videos and would love to share them with you. Hopefully, some of you might be motivated to exercise on a more regular basis. You will feel so much better!

Please let me know what you think.

St. Paul's Tabernacle AME Zion Church today was full of relatives and friends of Donald Reid, many of whom shared what a great, caring (though sometimes cantankerous - though I never saw that side of him) man he was.

The Memorial was inside the program we were given as we entered the service.

A representative of the funeral home presented this tapestry to the family.

Ignore my previous post about reserving a ticket for the luncheon honoroing Dot Williams as Mother of the Year. It's taking longer and longer for my senior brain to wake up these days!!! I'm so sorry,

We have some sad news to impart to you today. Early this morning, Don Reid passed away at the Elizabeth House. At this time, we have no information as to arrangements. When we do, we will send another message so that anyone who wishes to do so may pay their respects.

Don was our president for a long time and we will miss him sorely. He was so passionate about the Democratic party and particularly the Seniors Club.

Anyone who wishes to speak at our meeting this Wednesday, May 15, will be welcome to do so.

May he rest in peace.

The event in honor of NATO has been rescheduled. Here is a message from Bob Houde, organizer of the event:

"Okay, so word has just come down from on high and confirmed our use of the steps at City Hall facing 6th Avenue and at the intersection of North King. Ample parking is across the street and on the other side of the building.

As of now unless a catastrophe strikes we will meet/muster for 4:30 Sunday afternoon, April 7.

We will attempt to honor specific requests relative to particular Flags.

This truly will be a historic event, so having never done this before patience should be the order of the day. A line of communication is being established with Brussels and the pictures will be forwarded directly to NATO headquarters.

Hope everyone is in good health and anticipate seeing you there Sunday afternoon."

We had a jolly Senior Democrats meeting today, February 21, 2024, at the Golden Corral with the surprising arrival of a traveling mariachi duo!

Chris Walters, Democratic candidate for NC District 48 seat, was our guest speaker. https://www.myhcdp.com/post/hendersonville-native-chris-walters-enters-race-for-nc-state-senate-district-48

His website is almost up and for sure you will want to visit it and leave some support through Act Blue. He will also be happy to accept a check from you!

Peter Fricke encouraged us to attend the Greeter/Observer training this Saturday, February 24, 10am at HCDP HQ (1216 Sixth Avenue East, Suite 600 in back) to learn more about this important job: https://www.myhcdp.com/post/observer-and-greeter-training

Denise Young, from the Alzheimer's Association, was our guest speaker today and shared some very useful information, especially the 24/7 Helpline, available all day, every day with which you can speak to real qualified people to help you with your dementia related questions. 1-800-272-3900

She encouraged us to participate in the upcoming Alzheimer's Walk which will start at the Historic Courthouse.

Aside from discussion symptoms and medications, she mentioned the importance of what we eat, especially the Mediterranean and DASH diets. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/dash-diet/art-20048456
