Prefab and custom shower bases serve the same fundamental purpose: to establish a waterproof and durable foundation for your shower. However, custom shower bases offer greater design flexibility and utilize premium materials. This enhanced customization comes at a higher cost due to the level of customization, materials used, and installation complexity, which includes the following steps:

1. The builder needs to frame the base.
2. The plumber needs to install the drain.
3. The builder needs to shim the floor for proper drainage.
4. The builder needs to install a plywood subfloor on top of the shimmed floor.
5. The plumber needs to install lead, vinyl, or a combination of materials for the shower base and bench.

These steps represent only a portion of the construction process required to create an effective and quality custom shower base
