Fast letdown? 🏃♀️
Never fear! This is common. You can help Baby handle it better by reclining back while feeding and focusing on a wide, deep latch.
These seemingly little adjustments can be game changers for your feeding journey!
Still have questions? Schedule with us today at www.milkyways-lactationservices.com or text 701-202-8423.
Have an interview with a potential Doula coming up soon?
Here are some questions you should ask your doula to see if they are your fit!
✨What is your training organization or background? Do you have any other trainings or certifications to help me postpartum?
✨Are you available around my due date?
✨What is your philosophy about birth or postpartum?
✨Birth Doula: How do you most often support your clients in labor? Postpartum Doula: How you you support your clients at home?
✨How many births have you attended?
✨Have you attended births at my hospital, birth center, or other home births?
✨What are your experiences there? Do you have experience with my care giver?
✨Who is your preferred back up doula?
✨At what point in labor do you meet us?
✨Why did you become a doula?
Your Doula will be a vital part in your support team and they are not "one size fits all!" Find a Doula you feel comfortable with, you feel confident will help you achieve the birth you desire, and someone you could see yourself grabbing a coffee with! You want your Doula to feel like a friend or a warm hug.

Milkyways Team Introduction
Becky Kuss, MSN, RN, IBCLC
Becky is the founder and owner of Milkyways Lactation Services. She is a wife, mom of four, and grandmother of six. She has been a RN for over 30 years and developed a passion for all things mom/baby early in her career. Working on labor and delivery solidified her desire to support breastfeeding families, and in 2010 she became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Wanting to gain more knowledge and expertise, she completed requirements for becoming an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2018. In 2019, she opened Milkyways and has not looked back. In 2022, Becky graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Masters in Nursing. She uses her education to lead others to achieve their dreams of being lactation professionals.
Her passion to bring realistic and affordable lactation support to the region has led her to bring others onto the team; it has also led to a partnership with Simply You Wellness to offer the first breastfeeding medicine clinic in the area.
In Becky's spare time, you will find her with her husband and their three dogs and two cats. They enjoy seeing their children and grandchildren who live both near and far.
Her vision for our region is to bring lactation support to as many communities in North Dakota as she possibly can.
Congratulations, Gaby!!

Milkyways Team Introduction: Kailey Seedorf, BSN, RN, IBCLC
Originally from Minnesota, Kailey moved to North Dakota in 2012 with her high school sweetheart Jamie. Together, they have two busy little girls.
Kailey has an extensive background in pediatrics and NICU as a BSN. Her journey as a lactation professional began in 2022 when she became a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS). Most recently, she has become an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) which is the highest level of certification available for a lactation professional. Currently, she is enrolled in University of Mary's Doctor of Family Nurse Practitioner Program.
Her favorite thing about being apart of the Milkyways team is seeing the progress families make as they achieve their feeding goals. Her goal for 2024 is to expand her service radius to include rural counties.
She currently does home visits and office visits for families within the Bismarck-Mandan area.
Colostrum, what is it? Colostrum is often referred to as liquid gold. Here’s why:
💛 colostrum is high in immunoglobulins (aka antibodies). Consider colostrum as Baby’s first, all-natural vaccine 💉
💛 colostrum is high in protein 💪
💛 colostrum is high in fat-soluble vitamins and minerals 💊
Colostrum=Milk!
Many times, moms think colostrum is not enough for their babies. They’ll say something about needing to supplement until their milk “comes in” because colostrum isn’t enough. Often, colostrum is enough! Families need the education and support to realize this and maximize the output.
We aren’t waiting for milk to come in because it is already here! Colostrum is nutritionally appropriate for a little newborn small tummy size. Colostrum then transitions into → mature milk. Once we change the language from “milk coming in” → to “milk transitioning” then breastfeeding families will feel much more competent in feeding their babies.
Free Weight and Latch clinic this week Wed. 10 to 2. Only a few spots available! Come see Sarah Losos McFarlen!
