What does it mean to be a hero in todays world? Ari Kohen is a Political Scientist at the University of Nebraska and one of the resident academics on the Heroic Imagination Project's board. Taking heroic action when the time comes can be difficult. There are so many factors at play and the circumstances can quickly become overwhelming. Here is a list of some of the easiest ways to increase your likelihood of taking positive and decisive action when the time comes.

1. Be aware of your surroundings. You need to see the situation to react to it.
2. Use your Heroic Imagination. In your spare time think about how you could help if someone were at risk.
3. Be comfortable standing out from the crowd. Being the first to act means that lots of people might notice you and this can be pretty jarring.
4. Practice doing small pro-social things in your everyday life. Soon it will be a habit!

We are having an incredible time with everyone here at the San Francisco HIP Summit. Our board members and training partners from abroad are presenting their projects and hearing about everyone's work is truly humbling and exciting.

We had the amazing opportunity to conduct a training session at the Catholic University of Portugal (Universidade Católica Portuguesa) last week. Our Board President, Matt Langdon, and Board Secretary, Ari Kohen, have established a strong relationship with members of the University's staff, enabling us to provide valuable training to participants. Our mission is to empower individuals to engage in heroic behavior in their daily lives, and partnerships like this are crucial in helping us achieve that goal.

We're happy to report another successful training session delivered! Matt Langdon and Ari Kohen worked with a group at the Catholic University of Porto this week, talking about barriers to action, how to overcome them, and the role of heroism in the modern age.
