I’ve been picking up litter since I was about 12 years old. That was back in the day when people used to chuck their fast food bags out the window of the station wagon without thinking twice about it.
When recycling became “a thing,” I dove in, thinking I was helping the environment. I cutely made a handmade recycling sign for the garbage cans by the door of the candy shop where I worked when I was a teenager.
However, as I've grown up, I've become angered by the images of wildlife being killed by our trash, and I am beyond dismayed to learn that in 40 years, less than 10% of plastic has ever been recycled.
I’m a busy person, and I have better things to do than wash out plastic containers that are just going to be incinerated or worse.
