‘In the Rain’

Being that this is the first shared piano composition of mine on here, I thought I’d try and make it a little extra special by pairing it up with one of my other passions (besides sound creation), nature cinematography—and to see if it could further accentuate the intended feel that I was attempting to create with the piece.

Both the recording of this song and all the video clips were captured while it was raining out during last Friday’s & Saturday’s storm (hence, its title, ‘In the Rain’), and the filming locations were all shot throughout Fort Collins and Poudre Canyon.

The song is still in its rough sketch phase and not finished being written by any means…

But I felt that sufficient enough magic was captured here with this take to try to emulate and convey through music that unmistakable sweet feel of being embraced by the year’s first Spring rain and being able to pay joyous witness to the literal thawing away of Winter//reawakening of Spring! ❄️🌧💧🌱🌿

Spring was officially ignited by this last rainstorm, I believe, and it’s already been a truly special one out here in Colorado (You feel it, right?!?! 😌)—with more yet to be unveiled given that it’s still deep within its unfolding stages—so here’s a new tune for you to mark and celebrate this much needed return & revival! 🤲🏼🎼🎹🌷✨

Eagerly awaiting more of this smile inducing goodness that Spring has in store for us!!

Happy World Piano Day! 🌎🎹🌏 (the 88th day of the year // 88 keys on the piano)

This instrument has been a true medicine for me these past several years, especially over the past year or so—growing ever more important as a tool to help me access and express my inner “soul songs”.

Since this is my first official share on the 88th day of the year (aka World Piano Day), I thought I’d play this gorgeous tune, ‘Sleeping Lotus’ by Joep Beving, for you all since it feels so appropriate during this time of year as we transition out of the deep rest of Winter and awaken into the blossoming months of Spring. ❄️🎶🌱

Much Love to you out there, and I’m really looking forward to learning more of just what’s possible with this instrument and sharing some of my original soul song compositions with you all very soon>>>

‘Anima’ — Joep Beving

This song quickly became one of my favorites after only a few listens of Beving’s third album, ‘H•E•N•O•S•I•S’, which is an absolutely phenomenal concept album that explores sound arrangements (predominantly w/ solo piano pieces, both acoustic & electronic, as well as with strings & choir) all aimed to covey the true spaciousness & vastness of the cosmos, a journey of expansiveness through sound, if you will, which is a quality of sound experience I attempt to produce basically with all the instruments I play as well (especially with the bells/bowls & gongs! 🔔🪐✨).

To me this song is timeless — ancient, like something that Bach maybe wrote hundreds of years ago, as well as futuristic, that the yet to be born Greats will someday aspire to write and play similarly in their own time, and obviously, current, since it was composed only a few years ago and is definitely a song that befits the present day — so a song and sound that bridges the past, present, and future into one (which is what the album’s name it’s from, “Henosis”, actually means, “oneness//unity with the source of all that is”).

And then there’s the song’s name, “Anima”… Which is a WHOLE thing in itself, but for those of you who aren’t at all familiar with the concept (just for starters), is a Jungian archetypal concept, The Anima — a man’s internal other and unconscious image of a woman that influences each man’s feminine expression and directs how one relates to women and the world at large. Some profoundly deep human psychology there 🤯, so I’ll leave it at that, and recommend to those of you who are both bold and curious enough, to further investigate and peer into THAT “vast expanse” maybe on your own and report back. 😉📖🤓

ALL that being said! This piece means a lot to me, and I’m grateful that my hands//forearms are feeling well enough again to be able to play and share it with you for maybe your first listen. I hope it hits for you and that you enjoy the last resounding chords (possibly my favorite notes of the entire piece!!) that ring on out and drops back down with that final D1 bass note, thoroughly casting those ripples of sound out AND into the ethers. 🎹🎵)))💫

Last night’s back-to-back Soundembodiment + Breathwork Ceremony & Sound Meditation at was absolutely phenomenal!!

Thank you—Everyone who braved the storm and took the risk to show up in your Fullness despite obstacles presented by “the weather” (both without & any “weather of resistance” occurring from within).

Some powerful work was done yesterday! 🙏🏼

This year’s resolution & promise to YOU is to bring more music into the world…

My first Soundembodiment album (which I will be naming, ‘Arise’!), more piano performances (both original compositions & covers such as this), more guitar songs, percussion pieces, didge tunes, flute tracks, and many other fused melodic hummings & rhythmic pulsings—all captured and recorded to express the true buzz & beat of my heart’s ongoing amazement at what an utterly miraculous time it is to be alive, to STILL get to be alive you guys!!, and to be able to make a positive imprint in these here grand cosmos through the creation of sound, oh precious sound. ((( 🎵 )))🪐🌎

So I figured, what better way to begin this new endeavor than with this piece, ‘The Light She Brings’, by Joep Beving (hands down newest favorite musician I discovered only a couple months ago), played earlier today on the “Honey Bee Keys” currently stationed over at CSU here in Fort Collins. 🐝🎹🍯✨

Hope this tune delivers the sound of lightness & sweetness to you and that the very special “gaggle of geese” guest performers//accomp(i)anists make you smile as they fly on by! 🙏🏼🎶💫

Thrilled to be a part of this year’s Fort Collins Music eXperiment (FoCoMX) as a featured artist!! 🎶💥✨

I’ll be offering TWO Soundembodiment sets on Friday (4/28) at The Lyric Cinema (inside the Tiki Lounge):

1st Set: 5:15-6:15pm

2nd Set: 6:30-7:30pm

This space at The Lyric will be the first of its kind shared at FoCoMX!

And will be set up as an alternative green room//care lounge curated for relaxation in a low-stimulation, substance-free environment for both performing artists and festival goers—offering everyone who partakes a chance to relax, reset, and recenter from the sometimes intense and overwhelming festival environment.

If you’re already planning on attending the festival, I’d be honored to share one of my sets with you at The Lyric this Friday! 🙏🏼

And for those of you who haven’t yet purchased tickets for this weekend—with over 400+ musical artists performing on 30+ stages throughout old town Fort Collins between 4/28-4/29—if you love music & the musical arts in general, I can’t recommend it enough!

March, what a marvelous month you were!! ❄️🌦🌿🌷🌧🎶❄️

3000+ miles of open road travel & over 150 participants that I got to share this practice w/ between a total of 10 events throughout California, Wyoming, and Colorado!

Such a blessing getting to share this work with all of you again out in SoCal this month and to have made it back to CO safe & sound after a couple seriously wild weeks of Winter travel. 🙏🏼

Well, January, that’s a wrap. 👌🏼❄️☃️🎶⚡️

Had the great privilege of leading a total of 8 Soundembodiment events this month—and between them all was able to share this practice with just under a 150 students throughout Colorado and Wyoming!

So very grateful to Everyone who showed up and invested into this practice over these past 4 weeks!! 🙏🏼

I hope the deliberate awareness skills & mindfulness techniques exercised “on the mat” was able to translate into your everyday way of being “out there”, and that they helped support you ongoing in both the sweet sounding times and the abrasive sounding times—helping to keep you connected & in alignment with what and who matters most to you—throughout this first month of 2023!
