WVDFA was set up to promote the private cervid industry in WV and educate the public about the cervid industry.
WV Deer Farmers. Check your mailbox for the latest revised quarterly newsletter. We joined with the New York deer Association and D&K Design to bring our members a great quarterly magazine with lots of industry information. As our WVDFA membership grows, we hope that you take advantage of advertising in the magazine to get greater exposure for your farm. People from all across North America will be seeing your ads. This edition we tried to get out to everyone but due to cost of printing and shipping, it will only go to members of WVDFA. There is a membership application in the magazine or contact me for more details. We have some great plans for this magazine coming up. If you are interested in being on the front cover, stay tuned. Information on how to advertise in this quarterly magazine is inside the magazine. I have some copies available for anyone that joins the WVDFA (while supplies last).
WVDFA dues are due this month. Please send $25 to renew your membership for another year or start your membership. We have a lot going on this year that you will not want to miss.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the deer farmers and their families. We have a lot to be thankful for. We are doing something that we enjoy, working with animals that we love, meeting people with our same interests and enjoying what our Father created. We have an amazing industry of great people and incredible animals that depend on us. I’m thankful for all of you and the WV Department of Agriculture for making this life possible.
If you are a deer farmer or hunting preserve operator, you should join the state organization to be up to date with changes, have a voice in the industry and know what is available and who is looking for something to offer.
The Annual Meeting set for April 22 members should have received notice of the meeting by email last week, if you did not receive an email, please let us know.
Membership Applications if you have not renewed yet for 2023 can be printed and mailed.

Attention WV Deer farmers :
Sinking creek Whitetails has offered to build a showcase slide show presentation that represents each of our farms on one continuous loop to be played at any meetings or get togethers that are held in our state with the WV Deer Farmers Association.
How it will work : we will have 10 pictures submitted from each farm in WV. We will play those 10 pictures on the slide show presentation along with your farm name and contact information. Each farm will get about 3 minutes of exposure . After your 10 photos have scrolled through, it will switch to the next randomly selected farm and they will have a 3 minute slide show of their pictures. This will play on a big screen TV , projector , or laptop depending on the venue. It will play on a continuous loop during the entire event .
This will be a great opportunity for every farm to showcase their deer or deer products that they wish to show.
Pictures can be of anything you want to show , but must be limited to only 10 pictures per farm.
The slide show presentation will be loaded on a thumb drive and can be given to anyone who wants one .
If you are interested in having your farm featured on this slide show, please submit your 10 pictures through Facebook messenger to the Sinking Creek Whitetails page .
Pictures can be of your bucks for sale , breeder bucks with available semen , pedigrees of does for sale , your fawns , your facility , any product produced from your deer farm, etc.
*your farm must be in West Virginia
*please include your farm name , address, phone number and e mail address when you submit your 10 pictures.
We recently had the summer picnic. Thank you to WV Agriculture commissioner Kent Leonhardt for attending. Thank you to MJ Christy and Gunner for hosting the event.
The West Virginia WV Deer Farmers Association annual picnic will be next Saturday July 15 2023.
It is being held at Greenbriar Mountain Whitetails. You can contact MJ Christy to inquire about directions.
It is a covered dish feast, so bring your favorite to share with everyone.
Promising New Research on CWD - Petersen's Bowhunting New findings show some deer are resistant to Chronic Wasting Disease.
Building a fence is the largest expense and biggest hurtle to starting a deer farm.
Fence requirements are 8 foot high New Zealand style or equivalent woven wire 12.5 gauge minimum tensile with locking knots with no more than 6 inch spacing.
Fawns are on the ground already in WV.
As a reminder, if you encounter fawns in the wild do not disturb them, never assume mom left them they spend the first few days in stealth mode.
The Annual Meeting set for April 22 members should have received notice of the meeting by email last week, if you did not receive an email, please let us know.
Membership Applications if you have not renewed yet for 2023 can be printed and mailed.

Happy New Year!!!
Attention WV deer farmers and all our followers. I received a phone call today from state veterinarian Dr Maxwell.
It has been confirmed that EHD has been found in Grant County WV.
Please take precautions with your livestock. Foggers and sprayers are very effective ways to fight these midges.
There are treatments available, but they are only effective against some strains of the virus, and it must be caught early.
EHD not only affects the deer family, but bovine, equine and other livestock can be affected.
EHD is an evil disease. We had it on our farm in 2019. I witnessed some animals that seemed healthy at breakfast and were dead by dinner.

Lady deer farmers, you have been invited to attend.
What a nice day in the deer farming world in WV today.
Mark Cobb and I spent the morning in a meeting with many federal and state government agency's, finalizing some cwd protocol lists. Lots of great minds in that room. It was nice to share ideas and experiences along with reasonings for some solutions.
I was then able to visit Mark Cobbs cervid farm. Mark has some beautiful red stags and elk on his place.
Then, I had time to visit Ross Mellingers farm. Ross and April are new to deer farming. They are building a top notch facility from the ground up. I'm looking forward to see the finished product next spring. Welcome to deer farming, Ross and April.

Ok, WV deer farmers, let's see some bucks!!
Just a reminder..
It's time for fawns to be born. Mom's hide fawns in the grass for safety.
They are not abandoned!! Mom will come back for it.
LEAVE THEM ALONE!!
