Registration is open for the Michigan 2024 Special Pathogens Response Network (SPRN) Conference. This conference is an opportunity for hospitals and emergency medical services to learn about care of patients with special pathogens. Four presentations will be provided that outline various aspects of monitoring, transporting and caring for patients with highly infectious diseases. Following lunch, an SPRN transportation tabletop exercise will be provided for all participants.
Suggested audiences include: EMS, hospital staff, infection prevention and control staff, healthcare coalitions, and public health and emergency management.

In collaboration with MDHHS, BEPSOC, and MDHHS, Ethics Advisory Committee, Region 3 Healthcare Coalition is hosting a Crisis Standards of Care Workshop scheduled for June 26, 2024, from 10:00AM to 3:00PM, at the Double Tree Hotel in Bay City.
The workshop will be a valuable opportunity for hospital professionals in Region 3 to enhance their preparedness, collaboration, education, and policy development concerning events where crisis standards of care measures may be needed.

Region 3 is hosting a virtual Basic Disaster Life Support Course (BDLS) May 30, 2024. This course will be instructed by Dr. Ryan Reece from Hurley Medical Center and our own Regional Medical Director, Dr. Richard Ross, ER physican at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland.

The State of MI Education and Training Workgroup has continued the Preparedness Lunch and Learn Series the third Tuesday of every month from noon to 1PM. These virtual educational sessions discuss several disaster preparedness topics to to assist with disaster planning, preparedness, and response.
Starting with the December 19th presentation on pediatric preparedness, continueing education credits will be provided for physicians, nurses, social workers, EMS and nursing home administrators. The monthly Back to the Basics courses held between January 2023 to May 2023 were such a success, that the State of MI Education and Training Workgroup is bringing the education sessions back to MI Healthcare facilities.
Starting in September and being held the third Tuesday of every month from noon to 1PM, MDHHS, BEPESoC and MI Healthcare Coalitions will be offering virtual educational sessions on several disaster preparedness topics to to assist with disaster planning, preparedness, and response.

Today the Bay County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a training exercise consisting of a simulated plane crash in the Saginaw Bay at the mouth of the Saginaw River. There will be an increase of first responders and emergency vehicles in the area during this training. We are working with agencies all over the area to complete this training that consist of law enforcement agencies, fire departments, search and rescue emergency dive teams, emergency management personnel, marine patrol, and more. The DNR Boat launch will be closed for the day during this training. We will share pictures of the training later this week.

On May 23rd, Region 3 Healthcare Coalition partners took time out of thier very busy schedules to participate in a three hour Crisis Standards of Care tabletop exercise. The tabletop was used to evaluate healthcare response agencies plans in responce to an extended power outage event where ethical decision making was needed due to shortages of community resources. Agencies in attendance for this event included Hospitals, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Medical Control Authorities, County Emergency Management Agencies, and Public Health Departments. Agencies shared current plans and procedures with each other and gained some insite on best practices used in preparation and ex*****on of these events. A big THANK YOU to all the facilities that participated in this exercise.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the Special Pathogens Response Network 2023 Virtual Conference. This conference is being hosted by MDHHS, BEPESOC.

The conference will discuss the new Regional Ebola and other Special Pathogens Treatment Center (RESPTC) program in Michigan, patient transfer challenges, the hierarchy of control and pathogens of concern, clinical management and more.
