These 16 awesome kids ranging in age from 3-16 have worked so hard in ASL Summer Camp this week at Paulding County Parks & Recreation! Tomorrow is the last day of camp with a presentation to the parents which will include the kids TEACHING their parents the ABCs, their name, ages, favorite color, history and cultural facts, 5 parameters of ASL, face division rules and even the Pledge of Allegiance! This group of campers have been so incredibly well behaved, respectful to me and one another and have had so much fun learning the 3rd most used language in the country!! I was honored to lead their journey of learning ASL this week.
Videos will be uploaded in the comments.
These 5 awesome middle and high school kids plus 1 additional college student (not pictured) spent 15 hours with me this week at American Sign Language Camp at the University of West Georgia! I was impressed with this group on their dedication to learn. These amazing kids never ceased to amaze me on how fast they were learning and the way they treated one another and me with respect and patience. Their love of learning was present from the minute they stepped foot in my classroom to the minute they said goodbye to one another in the parking lot this afternoon. They even created a group chat to stay in touch and practice with one another. I also gifted each of them an additional 4 weeks of online classes so they can continue their journey of learning ASL together! I was honored to spend so much time with these kids this week and help to spark their love of ASL! Their futures are definitely bright and I hope their minds and hearts have been filled with a deeper understanding of effective communication with people that are deaf, hard of hearing or non-verbal. What a fantastic week!!!
