Welcome Amber to The Rose House! Amber is our new HR Coordinator and has been in recovery for several years herself. Since overcoming her battle, she has earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with a minor in psychology. She is currently working on her master's in human resource management and her SHRM certification as well. She is also a mother and loves spending time with her family. On a warm weekend you might find them somewhere like the zoo or the renaissance fair. Thank you for all you do Amber!
We interviewed alumni and past Step Down House Manager, Emily, thank you Emily for being so honest with your answers! What have you been doing since graduating from the RH?
I ended up staying in Boulder CO and my roommate is another RH alumni. I wanted to remain involved with the RH so I worked as a Tech and then as Step Down House Manager. It was an amazing experience getting to work with some of the people that helped save my life. Last fall I was able to go on an amazing 4 and a half month trip to South America and also did a trek to Machu Picchu. I am an avid trail runner and plan to run my first marathon this fall. Now I am starting my new job as a peer recovery coach.
What was your experience like at the RH?
At first I had a lot of fear as it was my first time in treatment. I was welcomed with care and kindness by the staff. The therapeutic work was definitely hard, but also so rewarding. I felt like I was being seen for the first time in my life. The community was supportive which made it possible to be my full authentic self. I learned so many different skills that I still use today. I am so glad I took the opportunity to go to the RH and experience healing and growth.
What is your biggest takeaway from your time here?
That's a tough one, but I would have to say discovering my identity and purpose. Before the rosehouse I had no idea who I was. I thought I had to be who other people wanted me to be. Now I have learned to embrace who I am as a unique human being.
What advice would you give to any current/future clients?
To keep showing up each day. Everyday you get a fresh start, so how are you going to show up for yourself because you are worth it. Get involved in a recovery community and find ways to be of service to others. And don’t forgot to have fun and laugh a lot.
