The temperatures in the tri-state area this week are going to be brutal.

1. Cleanup and/or clear 12 inches around the side and 16 inches above your outside unit. This will allow clear air flow.

2. The EPA recommends to set your AC 75-78 during unusually high heat waves.

1.  On your thermostat, set the fan in the ON position instead of auto.

2.  Close all curtains and blinds that are in the direct sunlight during the peak temperatures of the day.

3.  Do not spend long periods of time outside in the heat. Make sure pets, young children, and older adults are not outside these extremely hot days.

4.  For those of us who have to work in the outside elements, please drink water and stay hydrated.

We are going to leave a few tips each day to help you not put strain on your AC.

1. Restrain from cooking hot meals indoors in the afternoon or evening.

2.  limit your use of large appliances. dishwashers washing machines and dryers at the peak of a hot day They generates a lot of excessive heat and humidity.

3. Cool down at night and shade the windows. Cool down the house at night as much as possible. And then when the sun comes up in the morning, shade all windows, and keep all windows and doors closed as much as possible.

Keep your air filter clean. Close blinds and curtains during the day to keep the sun out and reduce heat gain.
Seal any cracks or leaks around windows and doors to keep cool air in and hot air out.
Avoid setting your thermostat more than 20°F cooler than the outside temperature, as most air conditioners can only handle that much of a difference. Setting your thermostat higher than your air conditioner can handle can cause it to run continuously, which can waste energy and shorten its lifespan.
You can also try these other tips to help your air conditioner perform better in hot weather:
Keep vents open and clear
Avoid using heat-generating appliances like the oven or stovetop during the day
Turn off ceiling fans when you leave a room
Close doors to rooms you aren't using
